Popular Post J Darcy 5,871
Hares. Fascinating little beauties ain't they? If anyone has seen my books then they'll realise I spend ALOT of time watching them and, I am very lucky to have witnessed some amazing behaviour, stuff that I have never, ever read about and I've been lucky to have got photographs of said behaviour too. But that's for another project. Anyways, I have never heard of a hare using the same seat two days running, I had always presumed that they make a fresh seat every day. Anyways.......Yesterday and I'm doing a bit of rooting about, manages to stumble into a hare in her seat, real close, about 7 yards away I was. rattled a couple of shots off of her and doffed me hat. As it happens those shots were a bit over-exposed....what with me being thick an all..... But I managed to 'salvage' a couple. Not to worry. Then today I had another root about, took a few pics of stock doves, lapwings sat on the nest, you know, usual stuff and I decided to go and see what the hares had been up to. Well, low and behold if she isn't in the same seat as yesterday??? I thought I must be mistaken, but when I've compared pics theres a few similaritys, and it's definitely the same seat. I've circled two on the copped in versions here..... So, I'm still learning...... Got real close to another two hares as well, was averaging about 8 yards, but the best composed one i wanted ran away before I could get the shot I was after. Such is life....JD (Here's a couple of pics...... don't think the exif data will work, if it does it might just say the same date, but ignore that. ) 22 Quote Link to post

Tiercel 6,986
Very intresting, do you think that she may have young in that area hence using the same base so to speak? As opposed to a more nomadic life in the winter where the weather and feed may dictate where she goes the next day? TC Quote Link to post

Popular Post TOMO 26,067
Funny that,,,it was always my belief that they use the same seat regular,,I have put hares out of the exact same seat many times....and always assumed it was the same hare,,,as the useless dogs I owned back in the day couldn't catch them.... 24 Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
I was told as a kid by my grandfather that hares used the same seat and once you found one you could snare one easily ......... 1 Quote Link to post
Guest vin
Maybe they share seats... I know plenty of places where I can see a hare in the same place without fail. If its the same hare every time ?...No idea. Quote Link to post

long dog 125
if they don't get bothered they do use the same seats . ATB long dog Quote Link to post
thefensarefarbutistillgo 2,482
Can't see them making a fresh seat everyday because places where there is plenty of hares there would literally be 100's and 100's of seats if that was the case, if there was 10 hares on a peice of land that would mean 70 seats made a week, they must use the same seat quiet regular I would of thought 5 Quote Link to post
craigluckyjihad 244
I agree fensfar. There's land near me with literally 100s hares on and not big land. So winter time there would be 100s of seats. But there isn't Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
If I put an Hare out of its seat and missed it,as I and the mutts were want to do,id guarantee id find it there again,id enter land and walk to areas with known seats to give the dogs a gallop, creatures of habit is old long ears. slip lead 862
Forms are used all season if left alone but they will have and use more than 1 I've caught hare's and put others up from the same form but I have also seen old forms within yards of a new one being used. 3 Quote Link to post
