0 , But Had A Hell Of A Good Time/help Us Timmy Tree

Recommended Posts

well i got a pm off Matt asking if i wanted to try a bit pigeon decoying on his land as the farmer had just turned two of his fields over and planted peas and there was hundreds of them so invite accepted he also said Toma could come along to.

So camo netting, and gillie hats, and face netting were bought from swarland shooting range then two days later we were off .

The rifle,s were camo,d up with camo tape and scrim netting then off we went we set the first hide up at the edge of the field now these fields are in the open with next to no tree,s for you to lean on to or set a hide up and what tree,s there are are behind a 5 ft security fence that you cant get over.

we had a right laugh setting it up but once dun we set the decoy,s up at our zero distance 30 yards and then got into the hide now this in its self was a mission me and toma got stuck in the netting and once in our legs where sticking out the bottom and Matt had to clime out of his and cover them up .

Now if eny thing had landed in the first 30 mins we could not of shot them as we were laughing so much.Once we calmed down there were plenty landing but not long enough to line the shot up it was as if once they clocked the decoys where fake they took off this went on for an hour or so with only a couple of shots being fired but missed.

now we where in the flight line as loads where flying over but landing on the other side of the field so we moved and set up again but much the same So Timmy tree come on tell us what we are doing wrong ,we set the decoys out well spaced and facing into the wind .then we did cover the netting with grass and what natural cover we could find or are we using the wrong decoys like i said Timmy loads landed but took off as quick as they landed

As some one that dose a lot of this shooting we would like your help or just take the p*ss out of us by telling us where we went wrong here are some photos of the day atvbmac

Thanks alot tim i think we are going to try an ealy morning shoot we are going to set the hide up the day before and leave it over night and iv got some crow decoys to so will be putting them out as well thanks very much for the info i was thinking of climbing the fence but the brush is so thick once over you will not be able to move but i may look into getting a big knife or a small axe and make room then we can drape the netting over the fence. We did have a good time and i like the photos i think the one,s from in side the hide looking out are the best one,s must say though there was plenty of wild life that came past with in 4 feet of us that did not know we were there and even when the other two went for a wander on there return saw two hairs sitting not more than 6 yards away from the hide but i did not see them i did see a pheasant walk past the hide no more than 6 or 7 feet away but this was not the time to take it and it was let go and if it had been in season it would not have walked past or been eny where near me.Some time,s its not all about the shooting but just being out there and learning and looking at the wild life and being with some good lads and friends and not stuck in front of the tv atvbmac :thumbs::thumbs:

I think Timmy was spot on with his comments which will help in the long run, I noticed in the second batch of photos (no3) that behind you either side next to the fence there was overhanging branches which could have help out (especially the one to the left) but not being on the ground it's difficult to say because it may have been full of thistles or stinging nettles (i know that from experience lol), Scrim or mesh at the front so you can see out but the outline is broken makes it a lot more difficult to see. I've had a mate of mine, who was actually looking for me, almost stand on my hand when 'hiding' and using natural cover.

I've got to admit looking at the read and photos I have no doubt you had a laugh and it was a pity that your efforts were not justly rewarded. I hope that next trip out will be a lot more fun and with some pigeons to show.
