Remington 597 Semi-Auto .22Mag Problem

i wonder could anyone help... my rifle wont fire the 2nd shot so i took it apart and cleaned it but the problem hasnt changed any.. it will fire the bullet and then itl load in the second bullet but wont fire it so what i have to do is cock it again and itl fire the next one so at the end of your magazine your left with a load of good bullets at your feet :-(

Only 4000 rounds from new? If so, that's nothing for a .22 WMR, I would be expecting something closer to the 40,000 mark before the barrel is worn out, if not a lot more.

 

It sounds like its not cocking on the second shot, so either the cocking spring/mechanism is too tight so the energy of the first shot isn't strong enough to re-cock it or a locking lug has worn so it doesn't engage and lock the hammer back on the second shot,

 

If you've stripped it right down and can't see anything obvious, then it's a gunsmith's job :thumbs:

I had the same weapon and the same problem, I even bought a new steel mag from the states as I thought mine had gone. I tried it clean/dirty/in between. nothing worked, the inside of my wagon was littered with unfired rounds and my mate and myself were P'd off at missing rabbits. I got shot of it and bought an Anshutz bolt action.....have not regretted it once....

yea, its not cocking for the 2nd shot




yea, its roughly 4000 from new... my god, 40.000? i was told yesterday for the little bit of shooting i do the gun should last a life time... i think its a job for the gunsmith, if i keep takin it apart im sure to make a balls up and lose something... ...
