Found what I think is a 1st edition "Of Pedigree Unknown" 1976. One of those books id always planned on getting. Looking forward to reading it.

Careful not to get ripped off bud.....first published in 1964, green & black dust jacket.

Poo, thought I got one with the old photos in that Barrie mentioned.. Oh well, paid $0.94 for it so cant grumble too loud LOL. Thanks for the bad news LOL.

He did turn anti! Especially against terrier work!

I may be well off the mark but old countrymen like Drabble are from a different time, the media propaganda against terrier work was at full throttle in his final years and for a man of those years, i'd bet the images and stories he was fed made him think that his countryside was being destroyed from within?

 

Making excuses, maybe... But I'd always give an old man grace in his final years, especially one who really contributed...

 

"Look after the young, look after the old and let the other buggers look after themselves", wise words but from who..? :hmm:

He, wouldn't. Have anything else that was around, and the was good black dogs. Just his own, a man told me who met him.

. Bert like many at that time were old school his little hunt terriers did what he wanted why fix what aint broke. Him joe shaw. And many others. Had one pair of boots and sunday best. If you get my drift Edited by gonetoearth

I don't know how true it is , but I heard a tale that in his later years Bert was visited by a "writer " who borrowed a lot of Berts photos and writings /correspondence etc on the pretext of co authoring a book of his life , never to be seen again ,as I said I don't know how true this is ,
