J Darcy 5,871
Woke up at 5.30, looked out of the window and outside looked dull, cold, rainy and just downright horrible. Another half hour of snoozing and I had another look and this time things had brightened up some what, so it was out in the woods for me and my pooch. as before, there was plenty of pigeons about but they were mostly hard due to the very steep upward trajectory of the shot and the zillion small branches that my lead pellet had to be weaved through. I've taken a couple of pics and circles the pigeons in red so you can see what I mean. I spotted a woodie on the nest, the pic isn't too good but i didn't want to disturb her by getting any closer. The best shot of the morning was a pigeon I shot through the neck, but missed the vertebrae, he came down like a kamikazi fighter pilot, right into the water, the dog went in and retrieved it for me. here's a few pics...Hope you all enjoy.....JD 6 Quote Link to post

mark williams 7,561
Shooting Darcy. Looks exactly like the trees I have to contend with on my permissions . I always reach for my HW 100 KT .177 for this type of shooting trying to weave through the branches with the flat trajectory of .177. When I`m shooting in open areas I reach for my .22. Out of interest which calibre are you using ? atb. Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
I only ever shoot .177, it's a calibre I've used exclusively for all my hunting for the last quarter of a century.... A .22 offers absolutely no benefit over the .177, unless a person isn't accurate. JMHO> Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,561
Yes totally agree. I reach for .177 far more than the .22 . in fact look up The accuracy of a HW 100 KT .177 in a photo. I posted this photo recently and shows how devastating the 177 cal is. atb Edited April 21, 2014 by mark williams Quote Link to post

Sternyboy 4
I had a .177 hw100 too, penny sized grouping of 14 shots at 35yds. Awesome gun! Only reason I'm on .22 now is coz I got fac air arms. Quote Link to post
