...Its a sad day/night,.when a running dog,.. decides to quit running .

 

 

 

These things happen, they always have ,..and they always will...

 

The facts are,..some dog lads ain't realy quite as into their dogs, as others are.

They miss wee signs, that to other men, shout out a warning,..loud and clear as to just what is fast looming upon the horizon

This throwing in the towel business, can occur with all lurcher related disciplines..

Possibly it is most obvious in strong dogs that are still sore from their efforts, or with hard run coursing dogs, that have quite plainly, had enough..

I've also seen dogs quit when out lamping, on large quantities of rabbits..

 

It happens, and once it does,.the quit factor is always there, and no amount of resting seems to give you back the runner,.. you once had.

 

I feel sorry for lads who place their life's happiness and entire reason for being, upon the vagaries of a mere canine,...but, I have been there myself, so I do understand it..

 

Facts are, everyone and everything can be made to jack,..

I just thank the Lord, that nowadays, life is so much easier and enjoyable,..the pressure is off.

But a fit healthy dog reared properly will always won't to run/work way beyond what's best for them, and it's up to the owner to know when to put it on the lead.

Dogs ain't as fragile as folk think tho, I've seen guys give a dog 10 runs on bunny then call it a night, dogs still busting for more. Push a dog and it may surprise you what it's capable of, obviously you need to make sure you are starting with a fit dog or your on to a pisser from start

I'm all for testing a dogs capabilities, and pushing the envelope is part of that. However to me my dogs are my work mates, not tools. If your dog is an honest worker and you are honest with yourself about its abilities, then you should be a happy man.

It's far easier to carry an empty game bag with a clear conscience than a dead dog with a shattered ego.

To many blame a dog or breeding when there dog packs it in.They should really look at themselves and if a man can't tell when his dog has had enough hes in the wrong game imo
