Allan P 1,150
What does tested really mean. Working a dog to the limit to try and make it jack. Or working your dog sensibly gauging it resting when required and getting many years out of him? Quote Link to post
the big chief 3,099
The latter mate you never want a dog to jack just test to its best capabilities Quote Link to post
Allan P 1,150
That would be my idea of it, surely that's how to be a dogman. If you hammer a dog or anything in fact it will jib in the end. Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
Some may die trying..... Some might run until they are going walking pace but not Jack.... Some will Jack. Edited April 18, 2014 by roybo Quote Link to post
swg dave 334
I was out one night a couple of years back, i think it was in Feb, a really good wind was up but it was a very mild night, my eldest dog run his heart out for me, he caught 10 rabbits but was starting to look tired with a bit of a sway and what with temperature being mild, i thought thats enough. I could have kept running him and he would of kept going but its knowing when its time to stop, my friend that was lamping said, his allright, i said ile be the judge of my own dog, if it had been cooler he would have still been running and catching.. I dont know about jacking but if you dont know what your doing you can kill a dog, every dog has got its limit just like we have. In my eyes the term Jacker would mean an untired dog that refuses to give chase 2 Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
A dog will jib/Jack because of lots of reasons but all of them will be linked with not having heart .what I mean some dogs would rather die than Jack some would run themselves to a stand still. But some Will Jack because they 'think' they won't catch their quarry . Big difference ,each to there own. Quote Link to post
Fud 26
There are different forms of jacking though. Big difference from a dog over worked and one just throwing in the towel. It happens at all levels too from ferreting dogs to coursing dogs, just the more money involved, the less heard especially if your planning of standing it at stud 1 Quote Link to post

2.8 guy 403
I think the handler has a big part to play, you wouldnt expect a boxer to defend his title belt under the weather, or a athlete to brake a record coming back from a injury but yet you see dogs that look in poor health not fit or under fed being asked to do just that in many cases. 1 Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
Tested means absolutely zilch, its easier to spoil a dog on rabbits than it is to find its limits elsewhere, numerous runs, short sharp and intense are far more testing than a short gallop and a wrestle,to some.Testing is for the chancers, wannabe,s and ego,s. 2 Quote Link to post
swede40 92
Everybody has different ideas of what a tested dog is so it dont mean jack shite anyway everybody has different standards 2 Quote Link to post
swg dave 334
The most important thing for me is if i were going to be out for what i call a propper nights lamping, is to make sure my dog was fit in the first place, and im speaking for myself, im not trying to be a know all but ive seen over the years, where a dog has been laying about in the kennel had hardly no exercise taken out and end up with the title of being a jacker, the poor fecking dog, has then been sold on, to someone else, only to be sold yet again, fecking madness.. GET EM FIT... Quote Link to post
BIG G wheton machine 1,594
Who ever over works a dog to exhaustion and near death is better off away from dogs, Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Don't know what that statement means TBH... Either I see genuine effort, or I don't.... And I don't think thats difficult for anyone..?? Quote Link to post
