I can walk down the highstreet and buy a bed for £500,i can walk a little further and source the exact same bed for £350,work it out?.

Mate, you’ve unwittingly made a very good point there.

The bloke selling the £500 bed has presumably bought it for £250 trade, he sells it and makes an honest £250 profit. Good for him.

The bloke selling the £350 bed has also presumably bought it for £250 trade.

So while he might think he’s being a smart arse by massively undercutting the £500 bloke; what he’s actually doing is running around like a blue-arsed fly dealing with all the Chavs and misers, and he still has to sell twice as many beds as the £500 bloke to make his 250 quid!

Morals of the story?

A. massively undercutting your competitors just means you’re over-worked and still skint.

B. never open a furniture store morton, you’ll be f****d.

Catching a mole is sometimes easy,if it took me an hour to hang a door and then need to re-check,id get a better and cheaper door hanger.

not really the point I was making, if a tradesman came to your home 3 times he would want more than 70 quid.

people will do it for less.....for cash.....with no insurance....but a full time pest controller cant do that.

Never judge. You may be surprised.

Sorry moxy, you’re quite right.

Morton: Give up mole catching and open a furniture store instead. ;)

If I had a mole problem i,like most people would go for the cheaper option, don't care if he was a pro, jack the lad or even jack sparrow as long as he catches mole, why pay £70 when some one will catch it for a £10, it pays to shop around these days as with any service you don't just ring the first one and use them, you ring a few more to get the best price.

:hmm:...........

Guys that are into trapping moles/rabbits for profit, as opposed to sport and recreation ,.are in it,.for the vonga...

I've made a living from this game, for a long while and quite frankly,..the bottom line is,..it is real easy to be a busy fool,.and by that I mean,..it is not sensible to be working cheap... :nono:

Admittedly, you will get plenty of work and be loved by all and sundry,.but a pat on the back,.don't pay the rent...

My brief, is always to be fair to the customer/client/farmer,...and do what is agreed,.. no more, no less.

If the customer does not want to pay my fee,.then I move on,..no hard feelings,.they can employ anyone they like,..and as a self employed guy,....I can work for who I like..

Simples...

No right or wrongs,..just the way of things....

My philosophy is to do the job, be fair and honest, but make as much money as you can, from your labours,..

I am a saviour of valuable grassland,....not the fecking good Samaritan

I don't really care if the one who undercuts the other has to work twice as hard,if he sorts problem out for a fraction of the price I'm happy if he's running round like a blue arse fly that's his problem ?

A local farm had a ewe in with a scissor mole trap on its foot, it had nearly cut through and the farmer actually cut its dead foot off.

Thank f*ck it was just an old ewe and not a pedigree texel tup....Thank F*ck it was the local overnight mole catcher that set that trap and not me.....Bet that farmer wont simply phone for the cheapest price in future! Wish id got a picture of it.

When im not selling furniture,i do a little mole control,my mole work comes by way of mouth and advertising, the amount of people that I get work from because they have been unwilling to pay others prices, keeps me in enough work to keep me ticking over, until another wardrobe or bookcase is sold. The amount of times I quote a price and tell the customer to get other quotes, then I often still get the job, until some twat quotes cheaper, market forces have always dictated the market,i care little what others charge and how big a bank balance they require,i get by on what I earn and would expect them to do likewise,if they are not earning enough, either charge more, charge a rate that the local market dictates,or sell furniture as well.
