Sweeney 316
I'm looking into maybe the potential of owning a racing greyhound. Just wondering if anyone on here has one and if they could give me more info on costs ect 1 Quote Link to post
markdog 18
Train it yourself? Or have it with a licensed trainer? The last one I had cost £250 got him cheap because needed a bigger galloping track, moved tracks and didn't cost me a penny his winnings always covered kennel fees. I got lucky he was a good dog 1 Quote Link to post
Sweeney 316
Would be with a trainer mate, yeah the reading up on it looks likes there's a lot of luck in it. Did you make any money ? Quote Link to post
hounddog3 751
If your in it to make money forget about it. A cheap dog singate is the way to go for a bit a craic and a couple beer, s then you might get lucky. Quote Link to post
miss lurcher 11
we pay £7 a day for ours you need A1 -A2 dogs to have a chance of not getting big kennel bills. If you go into greyhounds thinking your going to make money you will be dissapionted. 1 Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
Depends what tracks you intend to use. If there is a flapping or permit track, permit to train up to 6 dogs, near you then you can train and keep your own dogs. I did and had a lot of fun. If there was a suitable track local to where I live now I would do it again without hesitation. If you own and train your own dog then costs as the same as keeping any dog. markdog 18
No Sweeny I never made any money, had couple month of three wins in a row ended up about £60 in credit. Only way we made money was on the flaps, wait till he was front of hcp then back him. If he led nothing would catch him Quote Link to post
