If we're looking at any compromise then sellers of dogs should be ridiculously informative with their ads. That means as much detail as possible instead of an article that reads...

Title: FOR SALE

Body Of Post: Lurcher... PM for details.

End of post.

However if you want to remove the cancer, that is the dog peddler, you cut it out completely.

every one has a right to there opinion, but one thinks theres alot more talked about on this forum that could stir up trouble, iv never heard a anti complaining about selling dogs.......

i agree in principle with you that peddelers are tits that aint worth the ground they stand on, but putting a stop to the classifieds is a bit ott... its a sad fact of life that theres scum in every walk of life, and no matter how hard you try you will never get rid of them... having to post 50 decent posts on the forum wont putt all them off, as we all know peddlers are in it for the money, and a few hours spent on the computer will be worth it in there eyes for the chance of selling a grands worth of pups....

Should people who come on and make there 1st or all of there posts about selling various dog be booted off..........my opinion is that peddlers belong in the small ads of the local rag and kC magazines!

Yes i agree

Fair comment but I don't think it's a case of what's worse or what's not. The vast majority of posts, in the Classifieds section, are selling dogs and while I have no doubt that many are genuine how many people are here in an attempt to offload unwanted animals and pretty much nothing else?

How many people here would buy a dog from free ads?

IanB's already said that he isn't going to get rid of the Classifieds, so it's not going to happen but if you want to stop them you remove the section. If they can't post then they can't advertise and at least this way the forum doesn't appear to endorse the behaviour.

On the number/quality of posts. Who is going to monitor it?

This forum is rapidly approaching 4000 members. It has over a quarter of a million posts with a record of 635 members attending in a day. Who is going to sift through all that and decide what constitutes a quality post, when there are only 11 moderators?

Why not allow people that wish to sell dogs, post them up in their respective sections? They then do so at their own risk under much more severe scrutiny than they would in the Classifieds?

Yes theres bad elements in the dog world, who will pass an animal from pillar to post without any concern whatsoever or not treat it in times of worms/fleas/injury, etc ... Do not buy anything of these sorts

What can you do apart from avoid these people like the plague, don't even associate with them..

Theres genuine people out there though, who work there dogs and breed for their own use and have sometimes a few pups on the off chance, I bet many have had dogs over the years from these forums and still have them now...look at EDRD & Countrymans they still advertise working dogs at stud, pups, etc...how many who aren't lucky enough to know genuine working dogmen have bought their dogs through these...

We should treat the pass from pillar to post types with a big warning AVOID!

Whilst were on the subject :D we have a non tolerance policy about text talking right?

The dinloes that post "nice dog mate" "how’s it bread mate" , FFS its a white sliced loaf MATE!

Can't we do something about this? Not only does it waste bandwidth, but it also waists my precious time reading such bollox.

I might be a right grumpy b*****d, but I’m certain that others get fed up with this phenomenon too.

I totally agree that they should have a minimum amount of QUALITY posts. However, why not make them accountable when advertising any livestock? At the end of the day, nets, DVD's etc. can be binned if they're sh1t, animals can't (read - shouldn't be!). So, how's about this?:

If you wish to offer for sale ANY live animal - be it a puppy, adult, ferret or feckin Indonesian pygmy-nosed mouse - you must PM a specific Mod with FULL details, including: What it is, how many, reason for sale (if applicable), location, price and MUST include at least TWO quality photographs. I appreciate that the last point may be hard for some folk as we're not all that great on posting pics, but in these days with 5 megapixel camera phones, bluetooth, friends who are PC literate and e-mail, I honestly can't accept that it's impossible to get a couple of pictures of a litter of puppies on THL - especially if you value your canine partners as highly as you should and want their puppies to go to similarly loving homes. In addition, the seller MUST provide the Mod with their full address, postcode and TWO contact numbers (one must be a landline). Only once a Mod has contacted the seller and verified the details are correct, then the post can go up. If the seller then posts, what the Mods deem to be an unreasonable volume of similar posts (i.e. several "Selling this 26" mega-machine for my mate who's split with his missus" in a year) then he better have a DAMNED good reason or else he gets the boot.

I, for one, have never advertised a litter on here or any other forum, but in the interest of keeping things right and showing our dogs/ pups etc. the respect they deserve, I would have no problem with any of these above requests if I decided to in the future.

What do you guys think?
