fireman 10,934
Yes Gnasher they get sold, gifted and swapped but to be honest if your half sencible you'd have places lined up well before hand if your breeding numbers of birds like Taz is and there are the bird sales where it's easy enough to get a table to sell your surplus at as well. Right i see............bit of a predicament really i want to breed them but dont really know many other folk who keep them and i wouldnt want to flog them to local bird centres etc...............but then if you dont breed them it kind of defeats the object in keeping them..................SUPPOSE I COULD ALWAYS BUILD ANOTHER AVIARY See why my set up has grown now ,your'll breed something and think "I like that" and you make room for it,then another one comes along and you think "I should keep that" then a few more "I'll keep that as a spare" and a few "just in case" and then the misses is saying "that garden is shrinking!" .But i'm with you on the predicament Gnasher as i find it hard to just sell a bird to anyone and i do end up keeping mine for a good while and find good homes for them over the winter months as i'm in no hurry to just get rid type thing, but i am lucky in having the space to do so
taz2010 1,297
Same here fireman none of this years young will leave till atleast sep or even oct after they moult and like I said never sold a bird in an auction in my life. Never would, have a lad in Ireland takes 5 pairs every year, and by the time I sort the good from the bad, theres plenty of lads they can be gifted to. Pete ive had bad years aswell 4 years ago had the birds in good condition then wife wanted a 3 week holiday first week in april,a mate come and looked after them 50 pairs I had then, and when I got back birds were in that bad a nick only bred 3 chicks all season of 50 pairs
francolin 449
taz its strange but who ever looks after the birds ,no two people have the same routine, the birds don't do too well when things change slightly, I don't like to leave em ,and mine are left in more capable hands than mine at times, but its still a stressfull time for me and the birds

South hams hunter 8,924
..... any bird that are past the sell by date will replaced with this years young ..... So; What is a canaries 'sell by date' ? I see very little mention of pre '13 birds being offered. Won't really effect me as I neither aim to show, nor sell. I too just want to get these birds out there, so others can have the opportunity of enjoying them Just curious. How long should anyone expect their pet canary to live for? old family friends bird lived to
