1888andybhoy 7
Built a larsen trap today for magpie / crow. Its built with 2" weld mesh. Do you think a magpie would get out of 2" weld mesh or will it be okay. If it can get out i will use it for crows. Quote Link to post
nod 285
i think it could get out, i was taking a crow out of one yesterday and its head fitted throught the mesh and got caught near its shoulders, a young magpie or hen would get out i think, try it and let us know, Quote Link to post
1888andybhoy 7
Didn't want to try incase i wasn't fast enough to catch the bugger if it got out. Just used it for crows instead. Do you guys know where i would get larsen trap springs ? Need 8 for 2 traps Quote Link to post
Grizzly 26
John at Fourteen Acre sells Larsen trap springs, £3 a pair www.fourteenacre.co.uk/shop/larsen-trap-springs-pairs 2 Quote Link to post
Hands of Stone 154
BASC used to sell them years ago, dunno if they still do?? Quote Link to post
woodga 170
make the door out of a lighter material and you only need one spring per door then you would get four traps for you eight springs Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
I have seen a Magpie get through 2in square netting but then again it did have a male Goshawk up it's arse.. 1 Quote Link to post
Irish fox 1
I don't really think they would but then again depending on the size of the magpie (young/old) would determine if they can get out or not. Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
The one i seen was an adult it must of spotted the dead bunnie in the Gos aviary but not the goshawk and squeazed through for a bit of scran.. i heard the noise going on so i went for a look.. the Hawk was not hungry and seemed to be play chasing the magpie so i thought feck it and left them too it.. when i next went to check the magpie had vanished.. so it went out the same way it came in.. that will have been around the back end of Febuary.. volpe 21
Yeah they can get out if there young they sort of get a head and shoulder through first and the rest follows but your biggest problem is the call bird it will spend its days trying to get out and you end up with a bird with bald patches over its head and a damaged beak Quote Link to post
