bird 9,926
I used a lure to do this last year, times the bitch over a set distance 5 times with adequate rest and took an average of the times. Then used that to calculate mph. But I think she runs faster behind game than on the lure. She just wasn't giving it her all behind the lure. I'm sure with todays technology it won't be long before a chip can be fixed to the collar and it send the info to a box. Max speed, average speed, distance covered etc. I for one would be interested and I have no interest in track greyhounds. your right , because most lurchers will try harder behind live stuff. I had little none ped whippet bitch 20in 20lb run her few times at the track done ok , but I swear when she was behind a hare or rabbit she was faster, well it seemed like it to me .! Richard Warwick 50
i read somewhere that some hares can do about 40 mph, the dog track by me was knocked down a few months before i got into the dogs so i haven't timed mine, if i did time mine i'd ask myself how long the average field my dog runs is and measure that distance for him Quote Link to post
