Line Bred Dogs.....

Recommended Posts

Genuine question...

Why line breed?

Is it to put a desired trait back into a good line? If so why not just source an unrelated dog which has the desired traits?

I have a line bred pup on, and would like to understand more about why its done and the benefits ect... :hmm:

Also, maybe I'm wrong but it seems more daytime dogs are line bred? The odd fox dog aswell, but you don't hear of line bred ferreting dogs....

Cheers..

So keeping the line going is more to guarantee exceptional dogs, rather than risk new blood....?

That's the theory, but new blood (proven)/outcross of similar type wouldn't do much harm. Theory is great but performance in the field is what counts. Just enjoy your pup for what it is. A well bred dog, that given time, understanding and dedication may well match up to its forebears. And if it don't, then just enjoy it anyway. It's inbred, what did you expect ;0)

Is most of the non ped whippets more or less whippet greys?

Who would want an inbred mongrel eh...

There only inbred when it goes wrong.

Just out of interest anyone know of line bred whippet x greyhounds? I see Lurcher pups advertised where one parent was whipp/grey but rarely see whippet x grey advertised.

You will proberly find most non ped whippets are pretty much whippet/greys

I dont know the exact rules and regs on them.

Correct me if im wrong but I think you can go to a grey once every 3 lines
