Outlaw Pete 2,224
Interesting one, Gnash. I was reading, on one of the colour canary fora, that this is a deliberate practice. I think stemming from the continent? Ye just don't give the birds any materials. Saves on mites. Though, I also believe some just think that is a crazy reasoning. russ2012 328
if she laid without leave well alone some dont build, i guess they can be lazy at times aswell but they should be ok

TUFFTY 1,484
Leave her alone for this clutch Gnash. But for next time I used to put in the old felt underlay. So it doesn't crack the eggs and keeps the young warm.
talt 878
My dad used those nest pan liners and he used to rub the underside well with a soft bar of soap. I never thought to ask why at the time, but maybe it was to discourage mites?
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Talt; I believe Carbolic soap is what they use. No idea if Imperial Leather works as well
taz2010 1,297
me gnasher when a hen lays without making a nest I make on and use a light bulb to press the shape then place the eggs back in and take all nesting material out of that box they will usually sit in sit no bother
