Get plenty of them around by me never had a dog bitten though they seem fairly lazy compared to grassnakes wich I often see when on my local carp water.

 

Found these 2 under abit of tin last year amazing how they survive the cold.

I got bitten by a brown snake and it was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. I was lucky it never got in my blood stream or else I would've been dead before I knew it. I can't stand snakes now, I always used to sneak up on them and tease them, now I won't go near them unless a dog is getting bitten. Horrible things they are.

are the brown one of the worse for biting people out there, are they big snake.? I swear they had one in steve /crock hunter house once ,and it nearly got his face lol, he was feckin nutter lol

From my experience I think the browns stay low or flee so you have to tread on them go get bitten. They grow to a couple metres long and they're highly venomous but they have really short fangs so less likely to get deep enough. Then there's tiger snakes and rather than getting really long they just get really thick and they get really aggressive. We ran over one on one of our lanes the other day and it would've been as thick as your arm but only 1.5 metres long. And then we get red bellied black snakes, see a few on tracks at night and they feed on browns I think. That's all that I've seen around my house as well as a python or two. Just a be careful post, when your out with the dogs this summer, as my mates dog got bit by one the other day. He got gundogs, and his springer got bit on its side, he didn't see what happened .Dog went down quick not feeling well, couldn't see anyting at 1st then its a lump came up, still couldn't see nout thought it might have been thorn etc.Took it to vet yesterday snake bite (adder) , dogs ok now got some drugs into it, so be careful small dog/pup might have been worse,!! he thinks it was in rough type ground not plough etc ...

Although it is still early,.now is the danger time,...the adders are coming out and lying up, in any warm spot,..they need every ray of sun, to kick start their lives.

 

Once saw a fellow hunter get bitten, by an exceptionally large, dark coloured female Adder...

He was picking up, purse nets from a warren that we had working for a fair old while,..we had even had a dig..

The snake must have felt our movements and been aware of our presence, cos we were rushing here and there, necking bolters,..but, she still nabbed his thumb. He was a big old lump of a man, and although his hand did swell up,..nothing ever came of it..Mind you, he was always on the drink and generally pretty tanked up most days,.so who knows

 

My own Cattle Dog lurcher got bitten a few weeks later.

We were ferreting a steep sided, bracken covered valley and the rabbits were bolting nicely...

As she followed up a runner, through the undergrowth, I heard her give out a sharp yelp..

She still carried on and took the rabbit,.but I could see something was wrong ?

Within seconds,..and I do mean seconds,..her rear leg started to swell.

It realy was something to see,..fecking amazing

I got her to a nearbye Vet and he administered Antihistamine..

 

She was a good strong lurcher,..but this reptile knocked her for six, so do go careful..

your bloody lucky lad what's the time frame on them things it not like 4 hours and your dead can mind one nearly nabbed me when I was jumping on a backhoe up in Queensland the boss told me if you get nabbed its a helicopter ride too hospital

About 3 year ago was walking my dog a American bulldog when I noticed him flicking something in the air the way dogs do when I got near him it was a adder tryed to get it off him with a stick mind I wouldn't touch it with my hands i couldn't thou and he ate the whole thing suffered a bite on his gum his head swelled up like a football cost me £400 at the vets

its amazing what can survive these cold winters we have.my bird was walking the dogs last year on my back field and came home in shock she said she seen a really bid lizard that stopped and looked at her obviously she was scared but i didnt believe her.and today a brother of a lad who runs the liverpool dog and lurcher shows said have you seen the iguana thats running around well i couldnt believe it he reckons its surviving on the local rabbits so my bird was telling the truth

Agreed! The stink does not come off your hands for days as I found out while looking at this one…It put me off eating for a day or 2!!!!

You'll be dead in minutes if you panic or don't apply pressure above the bite properly I always got told. I know of a lot of dogs that have died from snakes and we come across them most hunts if it's a little sunny.

I was told that with Browns you've got twenty minutes. If you are more than twenty minutes away from help....you're in trouble. And don't run or you will cut that twenty in half. Nasty b*****d things. We get them regularly around here and Tigers too. It's just something you have to deal with when you hunt the swamps.

Get loads round by me, down the local MOD woodland. I think my patt caught a bite once. She`s a fairly big robust bitch and usually require some antihistamines after a mooch, so I didnt really notice it until a day later, when she was laid down. I ran my hand over her looking for stray thorns when I found a big red looking lump with two puncture holes. Got Her mate round, the vet nurse and she said it was possibly a snake bite.. Didnt seem to worry the dog so I was quite lucky I guess.

what does snake taste like,? ive heard people say it similar to chicken.? don't think eat cold blooded animal my self , but as said never tried ,so prob never know till you try it.?
