I have never seen a straight Saluki X take a fox..... Pull 'em, yes but finish the job in the manner of a real deal single handed fox dog, not me.

Sure, over the years i have witnessed plenty of 'predominantly' Saluki blooded dogs make good fox killing dogs, some fecking lethal (my mate owned a cracker recently) but all these carried some other blood in 'em.

A little tale......

A few years back I went out with two dogs that came from good match running stuff, and had done well in this field, both were noted as being nasty feckers for fighting and both had taken deer well. They certainly looked the part. When slipped single on a fox the first grabbed the fox at the back end and no ammount of encuragement would persuade this dog to grip anywhere else and finish the job. The second hit it's fox right but after a nip on the nose, farted, let go and danced round the field for half an hour shaking its head whilst we tried in vein to get it back! The first dog went on to be a useful fox puller backed up by the owners sluggish half cross collie that was a demon.

Gotta agree with Joe, there will/are exceptions, that i'm sure some own now, I certainly hope so.

Pre ban, plenty kept dogs purely to run, catch an kill foxes throughout the season and plenty of different crosses were used but straight Saluki X's.......?

saluki cross , bull cross , collie cross , bedlington cross , its hard finding a genuine dog with all the shit thats been bred and peddled at the moment. i would nt worry about the cross as long as its bred off genuine working stock and then still it might fail at the first fence. keep trying no matter what cross and good luck

no joe its not that hard 8) and yes there were straight crosses but the one i saw was a 3/4 saluki 1/4 greyhound ok it wasent the best out and out foxing dog but it did the job on more then one occasion when i was there all the best w.b

It wasn't a straight cross then was it :feck::laugh:

Most saluki x greyhound will not touch fox there will always be a exception to the rule though.

You say you have Experience of saluki first crosses working fox before the ban. With all that Experience these questions will be easy for you to answer :D How many first crosses have you seen? if any, what was the breeding of the saluki ?

was it a saluki that was worked ? and was it put to a working greyhound?

If there is another breed in the mix as well as saluki and greyhound you will get fox killers. Saluki x greyhound and heavy saturated saluki crosses do not like killing stuff that bite back, they might well have a nibble doubled up with a capable fox killer but not much more.

So are you saying greyhounds will not take fox? ive seen plenty of working greyhounds do fox, And as far as salukis go if their from a line of working salukis they will also do fox, in other words not show stuff.

Right i might sound a knob but...is their much difference between KC and working lines?

Most working lines are Kc reg, but there is a big differnce between show and working as with any other dogs.

There,s different strain,s of salukis with different trait,s. I would say a "good" saluki is nigh on impossible to get hold of cos most of them are so infused with show rubbish they,re going the way of the afgan and the show deerhound, greyhound etc :(

There are still one or two "proper" saluki,s about though if you know the right people :)

A tale will illistrate the point.........i got a k.c reg bitch "bell" at about 2yrs old,the bloke who had her was a pr!"£K and she showed all the "steriotypical" saluki traits ie scared of her own shaddow! This was down to being roughly handled(hit) from a pup and left on a chain 24/7 :censored:

I bought her cos i felt sorry for her and she was a real beuaty!

One day day when out coursing in the dales my mates saluki puts a fox up out of a small quarry, now ive never been interested in em,they can ruin a good coursing dog,ive known previously ex  cellent dogs refuse to pick up when they,ve been bitten

My mates dog jake was 27" and a powerfully built saluki, but he was just turning the fox and had no intention of going in

Anyway bell spots whats going on ,passes jake and bowls the fox over

When we got there she had it by the throught shaking it for all she was worth! Like a ferrit on a rabbit! :o

She was 25" and light framed and she took lots of fox after this, hunted up and on the lamp, going in hard and shaking em :D

I had a big aggressive saluki dog at the same time out of the kizzy of barkstead strain(mick taylor),one day a fox jump,s out of the plough and i says ,showing off"watch this!"

The dog set off like a deamon and coursed the fox till it turnedand stood its ground, nowere to go!

On my life it started chasing the dog! " i guess fox is off the menu" my partner commented

If its in em......its in em

Mush before I take time to answer you, can you answer a question I have asked you twice before! What type of dogs do you run and I will add on how are they bred?
