Ukroosterman 548
Ok so yes bullx you here men say all the time a week... Tow week 3 week.... Month.... Take away the first 5 to 8 eggs away......? leave the hen go thought moult breeder the next season she me clean.... I think this is a lie.... The spurn can lay dormant for a very long time.... Probley in my opion. The best method is to leave the hen set on eggs.... As the setting process cleanses the hen.... I've all so heard this is lie and it's possabill for a hen to produce fertile eggs after becomeing broody?... With being with another cock.... personly when breed a straite famley of fowl I think best method would be to keep the hen with the intended brood cock rest of her days without ever switching brood cocks.... Old Charlie 11
I did a little experiment by taking a cock from a hen,the pair had been together for over a month I then let the hen lay out dated all the eggs then put them in an incubator there was 23 eggs only 8 were fertile and the last 11 she laid were all clear but only tried this once so not saying it would happen all the time, but have read in a few books that the hen would be clear in 2-3 weeks The book bullx mentioned is prob Atkinsons book and I find that very hard to believe and occasionally the other colour thrown can be thrown from generations down the line possibly before Atkinson had the strain All the best Charlie.
General lee 979
I was always told 10 eggs and she clean but I think uk is right keep the hen with the cock from the start that's the best way to be sure
Chicken_man 1,651
Well, i was told the same as Bull, but having read this thread, and thinking practically, and theoretically what UK and Charlie says would make sense. I suppose there is only one way to find out. Atb
