The doctor on the Isle of White had what was basically the last of the Atkinson Spanish a trio off Parsons and a pair off Major Williams, the birds off Parsons consisted of a bright red cock with white in tail and wings a black spurred hen and a partridge hen,the Williams pair a black breasted orange red cock and a partridge hen,the cocks would go between 3.8lb -4.4lb though the bigger ones were less active, the colours were crow winged dark and orange reds black breasted reds and some whites the hens black, lemon hackled black, partridge and white usually with spurs.

He kept this strain going pure until 1979 before introducing new blood but was never happy with the results so discarded all Spanish game carrying the Atkinson blood in 1985.

A friend of mine had a Spanish cock off the Doctor which he used into his Spanish and they throw the blue colour and mahogany colour as described by Welshgamecock but also whites and piles, they are striking active birds who generally keep themselves fit.

Regard Charlie .

Charlie, do some Spanish lines lay tinted blue eggs? Why is it there does not seem to be many Spanish lines, and not alot of info on them? Thanks :)

I don't know much about them to be honest but it seems to me the style they were used for wasn't popular in England and America but more so in south America and the Caribbean and the Spanish gave rise to the south American birds I could be wrong that's just my views and I saw some Spanish types in Cuba and speaking to a breeder there he was breeding Spanish but adding some American and aseel blood and the results were very much like some Peruvian birds I've seen i might be wrong and if I am please point it out that's how you learn after all

I would personally be cautious of the purity of any game strain laying a tinted blue egg and I have personally never seen any Spanish strain that lays one,but have seen them come henny, tasselled, muffed and rumpless the friend I mentioned earlier had some rumpless black reds but there is something about them that's just not right he has a lot of Spanish birds and they come in a large array of colours, generally even though very uniform and virtually identical in hand they don't breed true in colour and even if mating a black red cock to a partridge hen most any colour can be thrown probably due to being bred for purpose rather than show

I think the main reason for not being over popular is their small size,as some strains I have seen come little over 3lb.

All the best Charlie.
