The scarring after myxi is usually black scars over the eyes and on top of the head and in the last few years I don't usually take out the myxy cases unless they're nearly dead as they might actually get over it. Thus carrying on resistance in the local population, in theory anyways.

One thing I noticed while shooting last year was that in areas with myxy there was a lot of rabbits sitting out in cover far away from any burrows and even though the myxy was rampant there's still healthy rabbit populations there now.

I'm more concerned about RHD than the myxy nowadays.

See? There we ~ very likely ~ have it. Injury, rather than illness. Possibly some trauma?

Anyway, the eye rim looks clean and healthy, overall. And ye might have checked the behind for redness. I understand that's actually one of the very first signs of myxi.

It was explained to me that the original virus has mutated many times and when we see an out break of miximatosis it will be a mutated version that rabbits are not resistant to.

This is why we see the periodic outbreaks in a lot of areas.

The gentleman concerned stated that all rabbits will be resistant to the original strain.

there were not many that resisted that original strain, and if it came in that form again I think the result would be the same too.
