I agree wasting anything is bad, but surely what we do with our hard earned (taxed) money is or business. It's not down to a an out of touch bunch of fuddy-duddies to decide for me.

Typical bloody south easterner, got that much money you can afford to chuck half of it in the bin.. :tongue2:

There's a growing number of cooks who espouse thrifty recipes, cheap ingredients and using left-overs - (Jack Monroe is probably chief among them, if you're interested), and there is a growing awareness of the issues.

In my view, the heart of the problem is that the supermarkets have an almost complete strangle-hold on the food supply. They control the livelihoods of thousands of farmers at he start of the chain, and at the consumer end use every manner of coersion and subtle trickery to make sure we spend more than we should, and buy far more than we need.

My local Tesco recently held a month-long collection for the local food bank and I'm sure provided valuable help to many of the poor and vulnerable in our community. However, when I asked the manager about the bins and skips full of food out the back, he looked at me like I'd just asked to f**k his daughter !!

I was brought up to believe that throwing food away is just not done...............

Same here, no pigs, but the hens get all waste food.... but remember; the EU passed a law in this country making it illegal to feed kitchen waste to domestic fowl !!

The mrs does my box in with throwing food. Every bloody week she comes in from shopping puts it in the fridge and gives me a bag to bin from last week. Its always the same shit in it salad and veg etc. I cant win because I don't do the shopping or eat salad.

I used to work in a chippy when I was younger the foot and mouth was when the slop bins got stopped, so now they have to pay to feed the pigs and to get rid of the waste.

It also means there is more food waste for the rats to feed on at the tip.
