tearem 31
For as far as I read your new laws, sport is out of it now. Poor British terrier people. Game over. Flush the game...What if mr. Reynard just sits in his arm chair while the Russell is chatting to him: would you please be so kind as to leave your house and do those guns up there a favour. What if the vulpine stays?????? My God, am I lucky! Over here in continental Europe, we can dig and flush, within the season, fox and in Germany, badger as well. And we do!!!!! I am learning right now how to bolt badgers for the Guns, my dogs slowly progress at it, but the shape and size of the sett also accounts for success or not. And, patience, much patience. Take a day for a good big sett. Then, in Hessen (Germany) it is teeming with raccoon, open to hunt/drive/dig, whatever. And in East Germany and as far west as the Dutch borders and the Belgian Ardennes, we have Enok (raccoon dog), these latter 2 species giving as much sport as fox or badger. I couldn't live if I had to "hunt" like you there. Of course we always start with a "soft" dog talking politely to whoever's in there, and letting whoever pass to exit in his own time. And after the first soft terrier and some waiting, another and maybe yet another, trying for a bolt. But eventually if playtime is over, we have harder terriers, the ones that push hard and mix it, up to the fox killer! But in undiggable earths like the Ardennes and Eiffel clay and rock earths, we like to have hard dogs which still change position or can be called out since obviously, we can't dig. We always go for a bolt first, not because the law sais so but because we try to hunt decently! And the badger never gets extinct because of hunting and never has, on the contrary, the hunters protect it. It is building development and motorised society which threatens animals like these and has them forced and withdrawn into "reservations." Glad to say there are still plenty in Germany. (badgers) in spite (or because of!) the fact that we hunt them, also with terriers. I would suggest all serious terrier people come and live over here on the Continent. So we can maintain these little admirable dogs for the future. Enough terriers have ended up as sofa chips! Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Tearem; Fair play to ye, mate! You must have no end of interesting things to get up to - or down to! - over there. I must say; I knew ye had Racoons, but Racoon Dogs?! Bloody hell! More former fur farm inhabitants, I take it? Haven't ye got Muskrats too now? Or am I confusing them with European Beavers? Anyway, like ye say; Hunting hasn't made the Badger extinct. Ye probably have healthier Badgers there than they have in UK now. Causing less grief and dying a lot better than under a motor vehicles wheels. I wonder what true percentage of english badgers actually die that way these days? eighty % ? More? That'd make an interesting statistic! No bugger else gets to thin them out or remove the old and sick. I'd ease up on the suggesting they come join ye though mate. Try deciphering a word of what " Calvin " just blurted out there. Nuff said. Surely? Quote Link to post

Stabs 3
They certainly are in France Wilf.... Those European lads must just love us for giving them all those great terriers to work with Only kidding....you only have to read Waz's posts to realise that it's terrier heaven over the other side of the pond. Get some pics up Tearem.... If I read your post right, you have more than one terrier to ground at times? Sounds like some blokes I know! Quote Link to post

Nuff said. Surely? Enjoy your terrier work, looks like certain areas of Europe,America and Australia are becoming the best places to work dogs. bluecollar 104
How about instead of discussing terriers in a civil manner lets bash each others dogs and country that sounds like fun ... There is more hunting land in the us then there is land in all of the uk ..... rabbits and fox now thats some hard core quarry ... Just kidding ... I do hope one day that you guys get you hunting rights back and dont have to commit a crime to do what is a GOD given right... I hope to get over to the uk one day and maybe bringing one of your top notch working terriers back w/ me cuz as one of you said if it wasnt for the uk we would have no terriers... dose that mean we would all be hunting dachshunds ...
