roybo 2,873
Going back to the original question about a pups credentials......... Surely a pup doesn't have credentials ,because it's a pup. I'd maybe want the parents to have done the work I want the pup to do. Or maybe if it's a cross of 2 types of lurcher hope the parents pass their qualities on But definately hope the parents to be well enough bred, and a good few seasons under Their belt...... then hope for the best. Do your own homework if someone wants to breed to lesser standards than you so be it.Just don't buy a pup.All the whinging in the world on here won't stop them breeding. Some folk will breed from anything they happen to have,my 1st question would be could they have got a better stud. Or you might just want a nice little lurcher as a hunting buddy And say they are nice healthy well reared pups that are well socialised that may just catch a few rabbits for me 2 Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
A pups always a gamble unless it has a 'catch' dog and a 'kill' dog in the breeding lol 1 Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Ok so everyone knows it's a gamble when you get a pup. But surely the basic logic is. . . . That you strive to get a pup off two dogs that do what you want the pup to do, to a high standard. Obviously you can't always see both parents work, in an ideal world you would be getting a pup out of dogs that you have hunted with, or seen hunt for a few seasons, but at the end of the day, sometimes there is better blood. . . . out there that you may not have seen, or maybe no one you know works the kind of dog you want. But If you do your homework and area good judge of people and are not in a rush you can usually get what you need. I have a pup here now, that i've seen neither parents work (although have been offered), but I did my homework, and she was the type, and of the breeding I wanted, and went and sought out those who had seen the parents (and grandparents) work and whose opinion I trusted. And i'm happy as can be with her. 1 Quote Link to post
weasle 1,119
What if he hunts himself and his dogs work well as a team and work of each other you have 2 clever dogs imo lol Im not saying you cannot have enough work for two dogs, not even saying you cannot have two decent dogs, not even saying im right, its just my way. But if im ringing some one who i dont know about pups,I would rather hear they traveled to sutch a dog becouse they thought he would improve or complement the bitch, than i used my dog and bitch because there both great 1 Quote Link to post
