Malt 379
Culture secretary caught fiddling expenses, a parliamentary commissioner said she over claimed £45,000. It then went to a parliamentary committee consisting of her fellow MP's and she was told to pay back £5000 odd and apologise for trying to obstruct the investigation into it. That f***ing stinks IMO.. Imagine any of us had claimed that from the tax office in error or otherwise. We'd have had to pay the full amount back with interest in the very least, and could end up in court and get jailed. Her boss Cameron says she's apologised and that should be the end of it, she should be hung out to dry IMO.

Brigzy 1,298
She is also the minister in charge of implementing the Leverson Inquiry into press freedom..... and today, the Telegraph has released a recording of Millers SpAd threatening the reporter and the Telegraph if they did not back off from looking into her expenses fiddles !!! This is far from over !
Malt 379
One of her aides phoned the telegraph and threatened them when they were about to publish a story about her: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newsvideo/us-politics-video/10745952/Maria-Miller-expenses-report-Listen-to-Telegraph-reporters-phone-call-with-special-adviser-Joanna-HIndley.html Takes the piss. I don't particularly like the way the papers operate, but this has made my mind up about the whole press regulation by government argument.. For every case like the phone hacking scandal, there are many, many more like this that could be hushed up by any government regulation.. EDIT: Just beat me too it Brigsy! cragman 2,769
It's getting more like Zimbabwe over here. Bent MPs, coppers are corrupt, bankers ripping everyone off. Who's running the CUNTry?
Brigzy 1,298
I know a woman who was overpaid £1200 on her disability benefit, she was interviewed, under caution, and given two choices; pay the money back, with interest and a £300 penalty; or go to court and be charged with benefit fraud and possibly get a custodial sentence, and a criminal record !! Miller stole £45000 of us, the taxpayers, and was told to repay £5800 and say sorry !! This is why I hate ALL politicians, yes some aren't corrupt, but they side with and turn a blind eye to those that are corrupt. If there is ever a revolution in this country, I'll be in the vanguard !!!

scothunter 12,609
The thing here is "SHE" that prick Cameron has defended her twice now, and pffft the press if they ask about it. Thing is the Tories are short of women. I agree btw it's like some tin pot state in Africa with the levels of corruption and total blatant disregard towards the people. I seriously hate every last one of them. The sad thing is they will never get their come uppance though.
Blackbriar 8,569
I think the point is right about her being one of only four women in the Cabinet, and that's why CamMoron has backed her. It would be interesting to see a break-down of the vote that overturned the Standrds Committee's initial findings, and decided that she had, in fact, broken the rules, but that she hadn't done it intentionally ! Such information is never released (can't imagine why !), but I'm prepared to stick my neck out and hazard a guess that it was along party lines - the MP's panel has a Tory majority ! And THAT is why the Standards Committee should have the final say - MP's are not open, transparent or downright honest enough to be allowed to !
sussex 5,777
Seems with the job comes the added benefit of stealing , lying & cheating ...nice little perk that not many of us have access to ..I know normally if your caught stealing from your employer , especially if its the government , the court , where the likes of us would end up , come down on you like ten ton of eagle shit , not so with the MP's , they play the MP get out of jail card move , where all you do is say sorry pay a few quid back & get back on the fcuking gravy train .... walshie 2,804
Just reinforces everyone's idea that the law of the land only applies to certain people. Cameron alienates himself from the average Briton more and more every time he opens his stupid public school mouth.
