bird 9,872
yeh there all individual 1st, some start quicker than others.is just missing meaning all legs all over the place lol, or not striking ? either way leave it bit longer till more mature. both my last 2 dogs have been catching from about same age as yours , but both didn't have a prob with it, otherwise I would have held them back bit longer Quote Link to post
South hams hunter 8,921
Will the dog pick up a tennis ball without slowing to much? Some at that age can't negotiate the body movements to get down and pick up whilst running Quote Link to post
R.A.W 1,987
It could be a confidence thing or as said it's only a pup . It's a difficult to one give advice on because there are so many factors and question to ask . but I'd say wait and she and i'm pretty sure you'l be surprised ,there are methods and techniques to move things on but without see and knowing the pup you could mess it up with bad advice. 1 Quote Link to post

South hams hunter 8,921
Tennis ball fast and hard on short grass mate can help with strike 1 Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
It's nothing to do with strike mate. It's nothing physical at all. It's in her head. When she matures she'll be fine. 2 Quote Link to post
staffpeg 217
Just let her mature & she'll be fine for the stubble 1 Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
At that age many pups do not have the physicality to run, turn and catch at speed, ive seen the most mentally immature mutt run, twist and turn and catch a fleeing bunny, they do it as fun with little regard to reason and maturity.Until some dogs grow into their frame, they are not ready to adapt to what their eyes and brain allow their physicality to do. when the eye, brain and feet coordination kicks in,so will the catches. 1 Quote Link to post
tristan 0
She strikes a tennis ball well but not that well yet first attempt not so good second time round she nails it. Time will tell shes pretty dam bright for a saluki cross will take my time with her as im learning like the dog and don't wanna push or over do it . Quote Link to post
chook1 184
Try useing a flirt pole, it can help develop the turning and strike, you can make your own useing a lunge whip and a lightweight soft toy, if you do make one try not to over do it as it can be physically demanding on a young dog.
