the big chief 3,099
I only lamp out of a 4x4 ute, I have a roof mounted lamp, can't upload a photo of my setup because the file is too big but here's some clips of my dogs catching foxes out of it. and that's how its done keep ya distance from the dogs and slow down when the dog goes out I ran over a dog last October so I don't risk it at all, it was it's first hunt and last hunt there's no point in being up close let the dogs do the work sit back and watch ya hounds graft Quote Link to post

pip1968 2,490
4x4 lamping puts tackle in front of the dog's and that's about it. if done right there should be no injuries to the dogs unless they are freak accidents. Most who tend to knock it have never tried it in my experience. My bitch was a freak accident so was you a freak accident 1 Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
What you mean apart from pissing off the landowners and running the dogs over? Prefer to walk and watch the wildlife. have you ever tried it? Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
Why anyone would think 4x4 lamping is better than walking is beyond me a dog sat in the motor all night is never going to get as fit as a dog walking all night ever. 4x4 lamping is for the lazy and born idle get out on foot and put the miles in you will then see what youve got on end off the lead have you ever tried it? Rabbithunter 456
Yeah diezel can be a fortune. So can the maintenance of a landrover. But it doesnt bother me... people pay hundreds if not thousands a year to watch football matches. 1 Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
You can cover a County or two in a motor that would take a season to walk, then driving the land to get the dogs in contact makes for a better run/kill ratio.Ive done it,won,t again because of the nuggets wrecking land and property to gain a catch to dump, also driving the land makes a better dog of an otherwise useless mutt.As anything else,do it properly and take home,at your convenience, the catch, then its something id recommend, sparingly.
