Hi,

It feels like a long time since I had a pup, but she is 12 weeks now.

I started her off like I normally do for a couple of days on milk and dry food soaked for a bit, just to get an idea and break her in.

Then wet food and dry.

But she has only picked at it, a few bites constantly, never getting a good belly full no matter the brand.

But my main problem is that she has been going from constipated to runny, straining a lot in both cases.

I shot a few pigeons the other day, and realised she seems to go for a good belly full of raw over anything else!! She's munching the rear quarter of a rabbit as I type this.

But the upshot is, I have only ever used raw to supliment dry, and she seems to be constipated on it. Is this normal? Also you always here that you can't live on rabbit alone, is this the case for dogs?

I might do what i used to do and slit the dry food bag and let her help herself ad-lib and give her rabbit evening and night.

All the different shite the put in complete foods with additives and preservatives play havoc with any dog's bowels let alone a pup's.

Go for raw and you will have one happy, healthy and regular dog.

Mine get a mix of rabbit, chicken, birds and free meaty bones from the butchers. Three times a week they get heart, kidney or liver in small quantities and a few bits of left over veg. No runny tums, constipation or fowl smelling breath or coat. No vet visits too which is always a bonus as your dog gets older.

I'd settle on a decent brand of complete and supplement this with table scraps and game/meat as available. Go for quality meat or if using pet minces I'd boil it, truth I wouldn't use it. You need a balanced diet and just meat isn't balanced. For now I'd go for more complete with table scraps and a small amount of game, once you have settled on a brand to give things time to settle, chopping and changing isn't conducive to good gut health. When its settled increase the meat gradually until you get where you want to be amount wise. Theres a lot of hype about completes etc but common sense needs keeping in mind

Beware of E numbers, additives etc, god sake don't feed these they are full of em :whistling: lol.

main meals should be good beef minced from a butchers, which shouldnt be too expensive if you only have one dog. With that put a bit of quality puppy food around 30% protien and whole fat goats milk, never cows milk because it gives them squits. Whole rabbit with guts out once a week, and throw whats left away. Tripe is only around 7% protein so i wouldnt bother with that. atb J..
