Brigzy 1,298
you all speak ENGLISH tho......... Yep, good old GERMANIC language that it is! Indo-European, actually. All right smart arse, that's like saying mustelides are caniforms! Can we say English is a language from the Germanic branch of the indo-European family of languages? Yes, I suppose we could say homo sapien came from a single cell organism, we can take it back as far as science will allow. As far as European language , there are basically two; the Anglo Saxon; German, English, Scandanavian etc; and the Romance languages; Spanish, French, Italian etc. There are, of course, other languages such as the Fininish/Hungarian and the Basque, but most now use words from all languages, even such diverse languages as Inuit, Chinese, Arabic, etc. So to say English is a Germanic language is to simplify to the extreme. Brigzy 1,298
I'm sorry Malt, I should have also included the Gaelic languages, which include Welsh, but are also Indo-European in origin. Isn't it fascinating that two languages such as English and Gaelic could diverge millenia ago, but still survive on such a small island. ?
