Carraghs Gem 1,675
sunday my lurcher ripped a hole in one of my parents dogs at least 5ins x 2ins... anyhow i called vet out and went out as had prior engagement returned home to find vet only put 5 stitches in dog (coulda done better job myself) anyhow 1 stitch has broken and it has been weeping despite antibiotic injection... the problem is the wound doesnt appear to be closing at all... im starting to wonder what course of action i should follow is not a life threatening condition but i do want it resolved and my canine first aid kit is prettyy non existent atm
paulus 26
keep it clean with regular soaks in salt water and it will heal in time. just leave a bigger scar and take longer than if it was closed up
stabba 10,745
If you are not happy. Then get the same vet to look at it again and voice your concerns. If by this stage you are still not happy then get another vet to look at it.
sandymere 8,263
Take a picture, for one as evidence if it does breakdown and two if you post it people will be better able to advise. You say its weeping can you describe what? is it almost clear pinkish or puss etc ???

beast 1,884
the vet sounds like a complete amateur! I have never heard of a vet prescribing aloe vera for an infected wound, and i have never ever heard of a vet who didnt prescribe antibiotics for this type of injury. if the wound had been properly cleaned and properly sutured it probably wouldnt have gone septic. any decent vet would have prescribed a broad-spectrum antibiotic as a precaution anyway. i should refuse to pay and ask for your money back from the initial treatment too. i would also get straight to another vet, and consider sending the bill to the first charlatan. get as much evidence as you can (photos, statement from a different vet etc) and make a complaint to the veterinary council of ireland. sounds like a bit of overkill perhaps, but from what you have said the man is endangering animals whilst taking the cash

desertbred 5,490
Send both bills back to the vet unpaid with a letter explaining your total dissatisfaction with their professional standards. To late to do much now as the edges of the cut will have died off give good flush out with saline solution put Manuka honey onto it everyday and finish the full course of broad spectrum antibiotics, P.S find a good vet for any future needs.++ Edited April 4, 2014 by desertbred
