Hi all what's peoples review on 2 3/4 slugs for hunting !? As permission won't allow fac . So just wanted to no what the range is for the slugs Ect I no they have got a good stopping power Can you

i think your right walshie with a min of 8 shot no larger than 1/4" in diamiter or something. hopley89 i very much dout he would of sold you them without an FAC anyway, probably just making polite co

I would check the choke on the shotgun first if you put a slug through a full choke make sure you get someone to film it Instant youtube hit that would be

So when I went in the shop the other day to by slugs ( I didn't bother in end ) and the bloke behind the counter never asked for my fac just SGC then his braking the law as they are fac ammo ..

Also what's the range :)

Cheers

yes he would have been breaking the law as they would need to be entered on your FAC just as any other FAC ammo would.

Im told that slugs will shoot a 5" group at 100yrds, how true this is i dont know i think i read it somewhere. although should you miss the target im confident they would travel a dam site further! There is a lad on the deer stalking section that has a shotgun and slugs conditioned for boar?

He didn't ask for your FAC because you didn't buy slugs. I think the biggest shot you can buy on a SGC is SG or SSG? (I think minimum of 8 or 9 pellets per shell.) I'm sure someone will be along to correct that.

A FAC doesn't automatically let you use section 1 shotguns or slugs. You have to apply for them same as any other calibre you might be able to show good reason to have.

Well I didn't no that .. I'm glad in never brought them then as I wouldn't of been able to shoot them !!

And it would of been a waste of cash

So any shell other than shot can't be shot thought a shotgun unless you hold a fac and a be verified to shoot it on the land ..

I was about to hand over the cash and he only asked to see my SGC certificate not fac .. If I payed I could of walked out with them .. Tut tut

Yah I had a felling someone was gonna say about you have to show good reason for slugs Ect

Not a shotgun user but my understanding is that slugs are next to useless at range.. :hmm: The main use for them is stopping a target very quickly at very close range..

Well they were out on the counter .. Say no more

Erm I'm not going to say we're the shop was I'll ask the bloke the next time I pop in there

Thanks for the replys lads . Yh im just read that the minimum shot is 8

Once again cheers lads

Five pellets is the legal minimum, not more than 9.1mm in diameter to be purchased on an SGC

Affectionately known as "LG" or Large Game, though I'm not sure I would have the confidence of tackling a charging Lion with one.

The most accurate description of a slug's accuracy at range would be to hit a dinner plate at 100 yards, which I've found about right, any more than that and you're guessing with open sights.

They're restricted to Section 1 FAC because of their power (as are shells with less than 5 shot over 9.1mm). They have enormous energy figures at the muzzle and carry that energy with them for some considerable distance. If you have the reason to acquire them, then you can ask for the condition on your FAC and I'm under the impression, the shotgun you use them in doesn't have to be on your FAC specifically. Just the slugs. I stand to be corrected possibly on that one.

SS

Worse than that, you'd have probably been illegally in possession of Section 1 ammunition....

Unlike most shotgun ammunition which is legal to possess (but not buy) without a certificate, all firearm ammunition, requires a valid FAC varianced for that calibre for possession. So far as I'm aware that applies to section 1 shotgun ammo also.

As for slugs, my understanding of them is that they're usually only granted for medium game such as Deer / Boar.

They're also considered quite dangerous by some as being solid they have a tendency to pass through and ricochet.

I'm sure someone on here said they had a variance for slugs, but it is quite rare. I think most forces would rather grant you an FAC for a rifle.
