Tiercel 6,986
While there are still people who believe that jills will die if not mated, and the so called experts on ferret forums perpetuating that myth, you will always have newcomers worried that if they do not mate the Jill it will die. I have read some of those so called experts telling all and sundry that a jill will die of this or that disease if it is not brought out of season. Yes it is a possibility that the ferret could get a malady, but no more than it could get cancer or any disease not related to it's season. Newcomers are perhaps a little over protective of their ferrets and in the main want to do the best for them. The people who should be shouted at are the ones that perpetuate these myths. There is no doubt that if a Jill is kept in squalid conditions, there is a greater chance of her getting an infection that could kill her. If they are kept clean and well fed there is little to no chance of that happening. In the last 25 years I have bred one litter, and guess what, the Jill died when the kits were 4 weeks old and she only had 4. All the rest have lived into their dotage without being mated.
