Choosing A Pcp - Now Air Arms S400 Or Bsa Ultra

Recommended Posts

I'd definately go for the bottle route. A pump will cost around £100 - £150. A 3ltr bottle will cost you about £150. The advantage is not just the ease of filling, more reliability. Pumps do break. A number of retailers and shooting ranges I visit have stopped selling pumps as they have returned so many and now only sell bottles. The advantage also with a bottle is that you know you are getting clean air and nothings worse than dirty air in a rifle as this will cause internal corrosion over time which will render your gun useless. Filling a bottle only costs around a fiver and you will get lots of refills from it although this depends on the gun you use.. This leads on to the 'what gun'? question. MMM... what gun? Its a big decision, and you dont want to be influenced what you read in the gun magazines, they are paid to promote a certain product. They are never ever going to say "This is the worst gun I have ever fired in my life", they say "Although not the most accurate, it has a nice feel about it for the price". Research the the most popular guns on this site and others, read reviews and then go to a dealer who will let you try before you buy. Think about secondhand guns, there are some bargains out there if you persist. It would be better to buy a secondhand gun a few rungs up the ladder in performance than a medium range gun new. I personally chose a second hand BSA MK2, £132 cheaper because the original buyer noticed a mark in the finish on the reciever, I solved it with a with a touch up kit that I had left over from the Land Rover Discovery (Java Black) and you cant notice it at all. The gun was only two months old!! But, as guns go, the BSA R10 MK2 just seemed to fit me better and it shoots like a dream. Guns are a personal thing. Another person might choose Weirauch, Daystate, Air Arms or Brocock, and each would say there gun is the better, but at the end of the day the gun has to suite you.
