Well I find that ridiculous that dog aggression is acceptable just because it is a bull breed. I think theres a fair few Stafford owners who'd disagree with you.

. I think you should think that through,staffs were bred to kill each other and draw game and only the best was bred from,the once mighty game staff seems to have become a bit of a joke unfortunately,a show piece on the end of a lead, have you had any expierience with bulls?

Let's not turn this into another argument over which breed is the hardest, or who has the bigger dick...the lad is asking for help. If you can't offer any, don't bother.

 

Dare, we have disagreed in the past but your actions regarding your Stafford are to be commended. I think a lot of you for taking in Gr CH Peanut as well.

 

I think the best thing to do would be to walk her with other dogs. Where are you? (on phone so can't see location if it's up). There are also some dog trainers with bite inhibited dogs who specialise in DA dogs. A Google search may help for that. If the poor f****r has been locked up and used as a breeding machine she may be lacking social skills. The screaming may just be excitement.

 

Or you may have exchange one performance bred bulldog for another lol.

Spent a lot of time around Frenchies,the wife had two dog aggression isn't common amongst the breed , its rather unusual to say the least.Out of our two the better bred one,from one of the "top" bloodlines "in the country would collapse,foaming at the mouth if it walked more than 500 yds As you said walking it with a calm,sensible dog would help it...what area are you from?If in the locality you can bring her out with my two,a border and a non DA Staff Has she ever got near another dog whilst off the lead?Chances are she will run to it and then turn tail back to you,shame you cant muzzle her and try it I honesly think shed put the brakes on when she realises shes lose,ATB with her either way by the way most frenchie pups are knocking two grand now

IMO you have entered this blindly mate .I have never known a case of derranged behaviour in a dog fully cured only masked and waiting to reappear with the right catalist .

You know what needs to be done so make it happen and get a pup from a breed wheres theres no excuses .I agree it probably fear related but will never be suppressed .

Well just had the dog out walking through a field and spots another dog. Woman comes over with her dog on the lead and says maybe she's screaming to play. Told her I dought it and she's gonna need better socialising skills for greeting other dogs. Woman lets her Stafford come near and they kick off abit more noise than anything. Anyway peanuts cut her dogs lip woman was fine about it suppose she couldn't not be. Then tells me try putting a muzzle on her and meeting me. Woman's probably got good intensions but I'm just stood there thinking f**k me ill being schooled now by people with overweight pets. Anyway long story short any advice guys or the dogs getting put down. Only really wanting to give the dog a chance probably through guilt and being a softy I get attached to dogs. Was thinking water thrown at her face to shock her and make her shut up when she starts the screaming? Just not sure if it'll make her more fearful and have a negative affect. I know everyone will just say cull the dog blabla because its not a working breed but the dog can't help what it is. I've seen people with working breeds have litters from dogs I certainty wouldn't keep. I'm an animal lover end of the day and she's just a family pet.

Have you tried the stop, sit and smelly cheese option? Stop when you see a dog, get her to sit and focus on a smelly cheese (or sausage) and say watch, so she focuses on you rather than the dog when shes quiet loads of praise and give her the titbit (just reduce her food if you use loads lol). Then work your way up to saying it when shes walking and gradually reduce the titbits just give her loads of praise.

 

Or when u see a dog and she starts screaming you say quiet in a slightly higher pitch then walk the over way, when shes quiet loads of praise and you walk back the way you were going.

Its up to you bud you're the one feeding it but to me it sounds like a pain hole id pts and get a pup of whatever bred of dog and bring it on the way you want as you clearly dont want a dog aggresive dog and who could blame ya the dog got a chance it didnt work out so put it down would be my advice

Apart from this issue with the screaming she's an alright little dog. I'm not saying she's going to be anything more than a pet but she's not the worst example of the breed. She's got aload of energy and can actually run which I suppose is good for a french bulldog lol.

 

Part of me is completly fed up then another part of me thinks its a challenge and would like to solve it. Having put down the Stafford then having to do this dunno I'm just not one of these people who goes through dogs.

 

I've tried the getting her to sit as a way of distracting her attention. Doesn't work she takes no notice when she's seen another dog. Have tried cheese, chicken you name it. Shell move her head straight past your hand and carry on. If she doesn't want to play with dogs that's fine I can live with that. It's the screaming causing everyone to look at me like I'm beating her that I can't stand. Ill get my sister to join me on a dog walk and get a video of it and you can see just how bad it is. Have been around plenty of working Staffords and not seen anything like this. Probably as she's doing it out of fear though which is why I'm wondering if the telling her off is the wrong path to go down? Same time I know you don't wanna be comforting her and rewarding the behaviour. I'm not dog expect as you can tell by me having to come on here n ask. Same time I'm not a fanny who's panicking or anything, I have had a laugh with my mum that I've been around working dogs in the past and yet it's this f****r that's the problem dog.

Hi mate

 

Have you tried switching her to the opposite side of you when you see a dog so you're in between her and the dog and then just walk on like she's not doing anything so completely ignoring it? Also I know it may look a little silly but putting a harness on her to give you greater control may help keep her going forward and away from the dog she's seen. When she's then walked on give her a little praise once the dog is out of sight and repeat each time you do it.

 

Not claiming to be a dog genius but just a suggestion I haven't seen mentioned yet.
