Darkie69 76
After check zeroing the rifle i gave the owner a quick text and went to the new permission (first field) nothing moving except a couple of Roe deer just grazing in the tree line and a stag bellowing somewhere behind me, so off I went to field two. Managed to spot a rabbit in the middle of the field an using a corpse of trees away from the edge I managed to get fairly close. Rabbit has hankered down but a clear head shot, got the hold over, 25m easy shot, squeezed the trigger and wallop, hit the dirt right in front of it. Bloody thing was at 20m so not enough holdover. Just as light was fading spotted another about 50m in the open field and down abit so onto the stomach for the sniper crawl a field used by horses I managed to crawl to within killing distance around 40m (or so i thought) Squeezed the trigger missed the rabbit and found out it was at 47m. Conclusion, get head recalibrated with two bricks or get a range finder. That was the end of the session since I'm sorting out my lamping gear at the moment. but did my luck change, like hell it did. Walking the 5 minutes it takes between the permission and home I stopped and by Scotland's finest asking what was I doing where had I been etc etc. Out comes the permission slip (DavyT owe you big time) BASC card, Boundary map and the mobile with the owner's text. Arse covered, explanation verified and reason given was that someone would have called them if someone had seen me in camo trousers and jacket with a rifle bag over my shoulder. I accepted the explanation and walked the last 2 minutes to the front door only to find the power out in the street. Hope my luck changes next time out. Quote Link to post
Nathan1991 25
That seems pretty unlucky, it is said though bad luck comes in 3's so hopefully it might change. I had a day like that a few days ago. After hours of not seeing anything I eventually spotted a fluffy tail sitting at around 60 yards, after performing some SAS stalking I squeezed on the first stage, then gave a gentle squeek as to raise his head, with a little more pressure and the shot was released followed by a sound that can only be described as a wet fart :/ BROKEN MAINSPRING!!!!! I was not pleased ATB Nathan Quote Link to post
TheRealChuckNorris 42
I had the same range finding issue as you so bit the bullet and bought a Hawke LRF400 - plenty good enough for all my types of shooting. Sod's law I haven't seen anything shootable in the couple of times I've been out with it - always the wrong type of gun with me. Next stop is a home made carrier for my air, .22lr, .243 and 12 bore haha. That'll change my luck. Thoroughly recommend a rangefinder though - small investment if you're a regular shooter and helps ensure a humane kill. Quote Link to post
Darkie69 76
Yup sounds like a sound investment, thing that bothers me was that i used to be good at judging distance in my full bore target years, Must be old age, not so much creeping up but ran up and hit me over the head with a baseball bat. Oh well, looking at a new gun club this week so that may help out as well. Might look at a better scope while I'm at it if the funds become available. Quote Link to post

Darkie69 76
I think it's called Sod's Law, it's one of those million to one chances that happen 9 times out of ten to quote Terry Pratchett. Quote Link to post
