sprockerjay 74
aret everyone av started me long net its 14 meshes high jst wondering will I still need a selvedge on a hemp net and if so what would you recommend cheers sj Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
A selvedge is impotent on any hand made long net, it does a lot more than just run on the lines. I would double up the twine you are using and use that. TC 2 Quote Link to post
sprockerjay 74
cheers for that tc just another question how do you attach the selvedge do you tie it on to the tag end in the same way you attach another net needel full of twine cheers sj Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
It does not really matter how you start the selvedge off. The way I do it is to thread one side of a net on to a pole. Then start on the left hand side and just start knitting moving the other side of the net along the pole as you go. It does help if you can have a table below the net as that stops the net dropping making it slower to knit. When I knit a selvedge I have a piece of twine tied to my mesh board and it saves me having the thread a line through the selvedges once the selvedge is knitted. Once you have done the first row of selvedges just turn the net around using the thread already through the selvedges and place on the pole. You then have the selvedges done and both of them with lines through them ready for the running lines. TC Edited May 8, 2014 by tiercel 3 Quote Link to post

bobcullen79 1,495
I dont think hemp comes in Z, that refers to nylon twist. Hemp comes in ply. Just untwist a bit of what you have and count the strands. 3 strands = 3 ply. 1 Quote Link to post

netrigger 568
That's a bit heavy for a long /stop net ! ,, I personally wouldn't make a hemp (flax which you have ) any thicker than 3 ply . Get yourself some spun nylon/poly twine, .. Regards .. 1 Quote Link to post
