Holes In Lawn?

friend called me to tell me that a lot of holes have appeared on his lawn, no molehills just holes, dug one up and was about 8" deep,and around 30 mm wide? any ideas what would cause this?

I think voles too.

Sharp sand down the holes is ment to work. Never tried it myself though.

Harmless little creatures; whack some sharp sand down there and they'll no longer be a problem and the lawn will improve

You get a 20kg sack of sharp sand when you see them digging drop it on the little swines
