Bosun11 537
The bottom line is that you'll need to look into whatever breed you choose. From experience, if I were in your shoes, it'd be a Lakeland type for me, off working parents. Lakies can be gassy, fiery types in the main and need little or no introduction to tackling.... well, just about anything!! To me they are ideal dogs for keen youngsters, very forgiving and very driven. Quote Link to post
Richard Warwick 50
jack Russell will do most jobs Quote Link to post
Shamo 319
I rarely if ever recommend Terriers for bushing and ferreting. Beagle crosses are good little dogs for that job or even a nice little Beddy x Whippet, not ideal to have a Lurcher in the Bushes, but it is nice to have them about a set of holes with a Ferret in. 1 Quote Link to post
BROCK DOG 126
The boys are only young they will not be out with the dog without me being there that does that help give you abit more info? and i will be getting a patt for digging Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
Just my opinion, but let the boys decide. It will be a fun process bringing them to a show or two, read a few books, get a few magazines, learn about the various breeds / types and let them know the responsibility of owning a working dog. Don't let them hurry into it (like most dog owners). Then the decision is theirs. 6 Quote Link to post
