I dont know the legalities of driving but they sound like fecking bullies and the best way to respond to bullies is to stand up to them  I have had it myself mate, allthough I am on foot, Ive had guys shouting abuse, threatening allsorts, the more they did it the more I went on the ground to annoy the hell out of them and make them realise nothing they said or did would make me stop. I even went out of my way to go over and make sure they saw me on the ground every time they were there at the same time as me. It culminated in a blow out one day when 2 of them tried to follow me up the hill shouting at me, they couldnt keep up  and they had to get the 3rd bloke to give them a ride up on the quad bike then the 2 of them jumped off and came over and started having a go, one of them was shouting in my face and the other one was videoing it. I stood up to them and told them they could do or say whatever the feck they liked I would be back the next day and the next and the one after that and every day for the rest of eternity or until they shut the feck up so they ended up calming down and we got chatting and made a deal and now we have a happy ending where they give me a wide berth and I keep out of their way too. With you being a guy (albeit a small one  ) it might have to come to physical violence as sometimes thats the only language bullies understand or respond to, but if youse can sort it out amicably then thats allways better.

FECK UM :toast:

If you check with the the local council they should be able to tell you if it's a right of way, As for blocking you in :hmm: i know from experience in eire as this happened to me, i had permission on land and some local guy's blocked me in, thinking they were smart they called the gardi and it took them one and a half hour's  to get to me i showed the gardi my fac licence, copy of permission, insurance, and the gardi asked me did i want to press charges for something like unlawfull holding againest my will,

needless to say they never tried it again, the law works in strange ways

Get the grid reference from end to end from a ordenance survey map get on to your local authority and ask for the rights of way office and they will be able to tell you the legal status, a map might not be up to date and road status can only be confirmed by direct contact with your local authority, Byway means open to all traffic unless restricted so this can mean no more than two wheels abreast i.e. motor bike only, be carefull, ok taking advice about bullies, but my own personell experience and a £30,000 bill yes that has got 4 noughts has tought me to be aware of where I take my motorised vehicle off road.

Good luck

it has to be a b.o.a.t or byway open all traffic .and the vehicle needs to be all road legal, also i think theres a speed limit, its stops the illegal motorcrossers going mad on them.check local map mate

Bit more help this will tell you who you have to talk to and what ask for ROW rights of way officer ask for definitive map and statements they cant refuse you a look if you make an appointment or ask him to mail you the info.

Definitive Maps

Public Rights of Way are recorded on the Definitive Map and Statement. These maps are managed by the relevant County Council. This information is then provided to the Ordnance Survey who use it to show public RoW on their maps. There may be other RoW which are not shown and it is possible to have these added to the Definitive Map. All County Councils will have a process for this and will be called 'Modification Order Package' or something similar.

Ask your County Council for their package.

What it important, is that the Definitive Maps are being updated as part of the Right to Roam legislation. Part of this exercise is to have an up to date statement on the existing Rights of Way. Some people may ask for Modification Orders to a RoW deleted. This may be a RoW which driven horses use at present - e.g. Road Used as a Public Path (RUPP), Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT), green lanes and unclassified county roads. Equally, people may ask for a Modification Order to update an existing Footpath (FP) or Bridleway (BW) or to create new RoW. This could be useful to create circular routes for users. This work has to be completed by 2026, which a long way into the future. Remember that all Modification Orders take a long time to be approved or rejected, particularly if a Public Enquiry has to take place, as they often do.

All horse drivers should think about their local area and see if they can constructively put a case for upgraded and new routes to open access, particularly off road and safe routes. Plus watch out for proposed closure or downgrading of routes. In both cases seek the help of your County Council RoW unit and ask to be on their mailing list.
