Long Time Coming, Hms Queen Elizabeth

Amazing piece of engineering granted. Sadly much of it was built using cheap Eastern European labour as we have nowhere near enough skilled men in the UK any more to build something half this size. I think that's sad.

Maybe, I couldn't say. But the technicians, engineers, scientists and project managers almost certainly won't have been cheap, foreign or second rate.

. Nither are the welders bud. Go to barrow or lairds

 Tbh I'd have been suprised if they were but then steal fabrication isn't exactly top secret stuff so those jobs may have allowed non Brits to work on them. All the technical stuff would only allow Brits though.

So I'm sick of talking about shooting hares, thought I'd change the subject to shooting Argies.   http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/industry/defence/10723164/Britains-largest-warship-

Nah don't mind this geeky side of you mate , it's when you go off on one about the stars and planets lol Lab just loves you and malt.

6 years...... I can wait, lol. I just hope the Joint Strike Fighter is all it's cracked up to be.....   Plenty of fitting out, sea trials, snagging, crew training, battle group training, hele traini

You'd be surprised! A lot of 'skilled' positions filled by imported labour, certainly at Rosyth where the thing is being assembled.

The biggest terrorist threat to these ships will be from a small vessel when they are moored up. Its about time our navy clawed its way back up the leagues, we have the best blokes in all three forces, they deserve and need the best kit. We have been playing catch up on some of our kit for too long

I dare say the MOD Police have that under wraps in UK ports and Fleet Protection Group keep an eye on things everywhere else. ;) They're not gonna let some poxy rag head in a skiff get near the largest and most advanced Naval asset in Europe and quite possibly NATO.

The biggest threat to a carrier since the Falklands has always been anti ship missiles. The Russians and Chinese have ones powerful enough to sink a carrier with a single hit. Fortunately we also have six of the worlds best Air Defence Destroyers. :D

100 days from today the first of our two new Queen Elizabeth class carriers will be named in an official ceremony and kitted out for sea trials to enter full service in 2020. Have a flick through the CG images of her on the link.

Fecking amazing piece of British engineering and the colossal scale of this world class project leaves me quite proud to be British quite frankly. So forgive me for this thread and my geekery.

. Who told you that shite

What shite? That much of it was built using foreign labour..., or that there isn't now a large enough skilled ship building indigenous workforce to tackle a project of this size?

I can really only talk about Rosyth, but from the outset there has been a substantial part of the workforce made up of foreign labour. That's not shite.

That also kind of answers the second bit..., if we did have enough skilled workers locally there'd be no need to recruit from Poland... so also, not shite.
