On With Making A New Hutch Ready For My Kits

Well lads am on with making a new hutch for my kits an stuck on what tomake the front out of. Im thinking of making the front out of drill clear perspex instead of mesh. Does any body else use this material instead of mesh thought it might keep the flys down in the summer months. And heres my finished peg burn the top to make the head stand out abit more. Now ita hardened the wood the head is solid lads.

Perspex will act like a green house. Light and heat go in and stay in. Keep the flies down by removing shit, only feeding at night and removing in the morning. A few fly strips work quite well too.

Perspex will cook your kits seen it happen to 2 ginny pigs in a clear indoor cage put outside weather wasn't that hot either. Same effect as leaving dogs in cars.

 

Always use mesh on hutches.

Cheers lads thought it would be ok drill out with breathable hole in it with a tint to the perspex . But al stick to mesh then.

I converted a shed into a ferret court removed all 3 windows and replaced in welded mesh. Listen to all here and use mesh

Yes, definitely use mesh. Though ferrets can cope with pretty cold conditions, heat will kill em quicker than anything.

Your hutch looks a bit small, my theory is the bigger the better to have cool area in it , put a overhang on the front to stop the rain getting in and you could wire off underneath the hutch and use that as a run

Or a closed nesting box to sleep in. No rain and less wind. Always have the option of being somewhere out of direct sunlight then too.

Would never use Perspex mate will cook the place use mesh, I got small mesh its about 3 mm square or something like that its pretty good at keeping blue bottles out but if the hitch is kept pretty clean and you just put meat in at sight and take it out in the morning won't really attract flies. I would have made the hutch bigger mate my hob hutches are 4ftx2 1/2 ft x 2ft and there's only ever 1 job in each, would keep that out the sun aswell as someone said will heat up quick

Always put a totaly enclosed sleeping area in mine with just a 3 inch access hole,gives them somewhere to totaly get out the elements and feel safe.Lift off front to it, easy cleaned remove front sweep straight into hutch and out with the other crap.

Its six ft in lenght ,hight 4ft and wide 4ft mate. Ive put legs on so our lasses dog doesnt piss inside the hutch the mucky b*****d lol. Got told ammonia from dogs piss can kill ya ferrets if dog keeppa pissing on cage. So that why ive put 4ft lega on. Right hand sides guna be sleeping quarters with a peep hole in it all wood door. And other sides guna be a all mesh door with star locks fitted on the out side frame work guys cheers jmmy.

For the record, ammonia from anything will kill everything in a high enough quanity. Ammonia is a toxin, created from the break down of proteins. Its converted into urea to be safely stored until it can be passed as urine. This is actually partly why ferret (and other carnivores) waste smell so foul.

Thats why last week on dangerous dogs that bloke who bred them staffs eyes were all over the place lol. Piss and shit all over the house dirty c**t he was. And in the film train spotting that fella dies from the ammonia of that cat piss. Think are lasses dog wont do it again as I hosed him down in back yard with hose pipe the c**t. Mosquito net over the hutch will keep fly numbers down and let air through. Same stuff you get inside a tent.
