CharlieSlade 14
If you're field dressing it then better to squeeze the insides out through the backside, to avoid having a big slit to get dirty. Start at the ribs and push hard and firm towards the back passage, there's some youtube videos on it to give you a better idea and a quick method of skinning if you're not aiming to keep the pelts
Fennster16 29
I Skin then gut, less mess. starting with the legs cut up the belly and sides cut around the front legs and pull off like a jacket. Then i gut. Use a razor rather than a knife
Rabid 1,936
Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to open the rabbit from one end to the other for gutting, a 3" slit is plenty, preferably more towards the front end, two fingers in and remove the paunch so its lose and just out the opening, a quick flick over with the bunny and everything follows the paunch out, one intestinal tract to the anus needs checking and possibly removing. I would never use the squeeze method for gutting, no matter what the circumstance as I have seen many a good rabbit tainted by this method when the paunch breaks, even the most experienced of rabbiters cannot get a 2" paunch through a 10mm opening ! The best way, de piss the bunny by running two fingers over the bladder, leg the rabbit and hang in the shade on a hedge, fence etc for an hour or two, I have seen them hung till the end of the day with no problems, that way the stomach will have cooled and "set" the blood will not piss out everywhere and the intestines have firmed up. I have done literally thousands of rabbits like this and not once have I had a problem Just noticed mine is the longer post of brucemyster's post ! RemyBolt 420
Depends on what you want to do. Do you just want the meat, or are you looking to keep a complete pelt too?
celticrusader 78
I carry a plank of wood , hatchet and lump hammer as the legs n paws and head are the first thing to come off then I do it the same as most...its quick enough when you've done it a lot mate.
