Different Standards?

I can tell your nuts are sore mate

It's been an interesting discussion, but ultimately of course every man will have different standards, which are effected by a huge range of different circumstances, needs, likes, dislikes etc.

But at the end of the day, the standard of dog you keep isn't so important. . . . . as long as when you judge them, you're honest with yourself and others.

If you can't see at least one fault in your dog then your lying to yourself ..........

Thats the craic fellahs... We all want genuine good hearted dogs that can provide us with sport, of course we do,.but...   Years ago,..(many fecking years ago... ) I was one of the world's worst

This thread has touched on a lot of points, I got into lurchers because I got out of Collies'n Sheep via a bad decision, I got into Beardies via disillusionment with some Borders all some 30 odd year

I have not read all of this thread so i may have missed something...

Gaz i'm not having a dig at you in any way but how can you judge a dog.. you are green around the collar as far as runner's go and you may well have to go out with each individual person over a full season to truelly judge his dog.. so you can't really say they are bad or good from one trip out in your own opinion even more so when you don't have the experience yourself..

Regardless of that a good dog is a dog that pleases his owner and no body else's thought's count.. .

And again Gaz i'm not having a dig.. :victory:

IMO

I've not read the 12 full pages but il throw my two pence in.

Everyone has different standards and hunts more species of one type of game than the other.

Some people want and expect more of there dogs.

Lads are happy once or twice a week, then mooching during the day.

Other lads are 5 nights a week.

Some lads ears, some teeth, some bunny bashers some Bambi.

So one mans shite could be another mans little duel.

Then there is complete kennel blindness haha

Ive been in and around lurchers, of one type or another, for a year and a few more, one thing I learned a while ago was that there is a jukel or two about that will suit everyones standards. The folk who set their standards lower down the scale often appreciate the dog,the catch and the reason for being out in the field more, they get far more satisfaction and reward from the day than the lads who want a mutt that can run a yard faster and longer and catch more than their internet heroes.Saying that,i can never understand the need or purpose in breeding from dogs that would be average in any kennel, far better to source proper bred stock, then work it to whatever standard suits, than breed from average, that will never make the grade in a more testing kennel, again though, the lads and lasses that own, train, feed and work the dog should answer to none, but themselves.

I will always be green around the collar won't I though Millet. In 10 years, I will have been around running dogs 14 years but still 20 years less than some of you lads so still my opinion won't be worth a wank.

When in truth there are some blokes about that have been in the game 30 years and they wouldn't know a good dog if it brought them a hare over the garden gate. Yet they are so well respected because of their years.

Yeh I may be green. But I don't need a weatherman to tell me it's pissing down mate

Neither do i when i know the long range weatherman could well be wrong.. ;)

I can't believe you've actually put into words that you need to see a dog work for a whole season to know it's shite.

Some of you veterans treat us young lads like the dog game is rocket science and we shouldn't even be slipping a dog until we've spent 10 seasons watching and learning. Let alone have an opinion on a dog.
