Gaz_1989 9,539
This thread has touched on a lot of points, I got into lurchers because I got out of Collies'n Sheep via a bad decision, I got into Beardies via disillusionment with some Borders all some 30 odd year back, however me main reason for choosing Lurchers was because of what I'd read.Solitary dogs and hunters much akin to Shepherding, I avoided Gundogs because ofthe social aspects and bitching over dogs, just didnt appeal as iI'm naturally antisocial. I'm not kennel blind, I just know and love the Collie type I'm wholly aware that more capable types abound, however am I obliged to get a type I don't love in order to please others ideals? Of course not Gaz of all the land you travelled and all the animals you saw did your pup come from the very best of all that was available or from something that you simply wanted? Was it from workers or PRODUCERS as the two are NOT the same. There is an awful lot of shite talked about Lurchers but human nature is what is, NL strives to produce the finest Beddy Whippet, Magpie the finest Beardie x's Snoop the finest Saluki crosses etc as normal people they breed what they like,we are limited to cross best to best but look at Horse breeding for example, some of the finest producers won nowt but produce champions. If I breed it is for my benefit primarily and the benefit of the type and others secondly, I know what I have and what I want and what I like, I wouldnt blow smoke up anyones pumper to shift them. The joy of Lurchers is surely the vast choice available to us as hunters? You owe nothing to anyone but yourself and your dog and all you owe is honesty.Any of this is only aimed at those who understand genuine partnership with their charge and not those who view them as a commodity to be sold on or destroyed if they dont achieve unrealistic targets or view them as servants and not partners.p.s I won a bottle o Jamesons at work today so if that was bollocks im sorry, forgot wat the post was called halfway through relpyin Cracking post that mate. Enjoyed reading that. My pup came from 2 dogs that I really liked... Certainly not the best workers, not tested enough and both unknown producers. But I liked them both. The sire especially so. My pup might not be anything special in the field but she's my best mate and will be here till the end. This thread was never about me bigging my own dogs up or saying i own decent stuff. Just wanted some good posts and opinions and we've definitely had that. Enjoy the summer lads, time to start hunting now Quote Link to post

foresterj 1,096
Gaz I never meant you were bigging up youre own stuff bud, wasnt my intention. My point was you selected a pup because you liked it/the parents/the cross/their ability not because you were out to prove owt or do 100 fox a night or 30 hare out of 25 runs in front of an AUDIENCE, when you picked that little brindle beauty STANDARDS were likely one of the last things on your mind? 1 Quote Link to post

MIK 4,756
I think you should be ur own dogs biggest critic an id like to think I am, the more people I have been out with and seen there dogs run the better I think mine is but I'd never big him up and at the same time I know what his weaknesses are.
