If you can't see at least one fault in your dog then your lying to yourself ..........

Thats the craic fellahs... We all want genuine good hearted dogs that can provide us with sport, of course we do,.but...   Years ago,..(many fecking years ago... ) I was one of the world's worst

This thread has touched on a lot of points, I got into lurchers because I got out of Collies'n Sheep via a bad decision, I got into Beardies via disillusionment with some Borders all some 30 odd year

its the same as asking sombody what mpg does your car do....... reply oh its fair good, 50 quid would last for the week... i always lol, not a clue of mpg but its fair good cause 50 quid lasts a week!!

it would last for fookin forever if you didnt drive it!!

boils down to the same with dogs, each and every person will have different views on what is good and what is bad, but the definition of good and bad has not got a common standard, one mans good will be anothers bad, and vise versa.

if you have a plentiful supply of game thats not hammered too often big numbers with a middling dog are possible, however on tougher ground with less game that are harder to catch the same dog may be coming home empty handed. put the game in front of the dog, if he is catching more than is getting away he will make some happy, others wouldnt want any getting away.......

You've sort of answered your own question gaz, different standards. As long as the dog is up to their owners standard then why should it matter to anyone else? Who's right is it to tell someone else that their dog just ain't good enough? I'm sure that everyone could pick up on something on every dog if we're honest? It's all about respecting others choices in what they have/do.

I believe that any dog has the potential to be a good dog if your willing to put the time and effort in to get him/her to a standard which you are happy with. But good breeding does help and can make the difference between a good dog and a excellent dog. As long as your happy with how your dog works and it gets the job done who can call you on it.

Most off these people who call everyone else's dogs useless but there own are full of s**t you can't have perfect dogs all the time.

I agree to an extent. I know 2 decent dog men that have had runners for 30 odd years and a handful of dogs in that time. And they have all made the grade.

Is that down to luck?

Good rearing, good food and a good kennel won't give the dog them extra minerals required when the going gets tough. Wether that was doing fox and hare pre ban or trying to get 100 rabbits on the lamp today.

2 decent dog men is that just hear say or did they tell you that you couldnt have witnessed it with your own eyes lol
