Themoocher 231
With the whippet x rather than greyhound cross your creating a lighter smaller dog hence better acceleration wich is what I need a lot of the times on these small fields Yeah when your crossing a whippet with bull your not going get a light small dog. Your producing a v heavy whippet. At least with grey bull x whippet in what every way you want to cross or grey x bull your keeping height to level the bull out with. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Apart from personal preference, and desire. . . . .I don't really see the advantage of a lot of whippet x lurchers that are 1/2 or 3/4 whippet, working wise. . . . in comparison to a straight whippet. If getting a lurcher, i'd always be looking for some grey blood, to bring the size and the top end speed up. Having said that, if it's what you want, get one! And for the record i've seen a wicked little bull/whip, one of powells pocket rockets, and she was a 21/22 " powerhouse, and nippy as feck! And good at her job. 2 Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Fair play, I only saw one, and she was sister to a bitch JP kept. But like I said, did her job and took up half the space lol. Quote Link to post

Did it have plenty of wind? This lads talking bout a general mooching all rounder. Do you think the jp rockets offer anything that a racey breed bull grey doesn't? Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
I wasn't telling the lad to get one. And I wasn't suggesting one was better than a racy bull x grey. But he DID ask for a SMALL lurcher, to work along side his BIG lurchers. . . . And was wondering which would suit, bull x whip or beddy x whip. . . . I was just commenting that i've seen one decent bull x whippet. And funnily enough seen one decent beddy x whippet. For mooching/lamping/ferreting. . . . . take your pick i'd say. I wouldn't pick either Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
I just read that back and I sound pretty aggressive! I was on the phone and typing at the same time, so it's a bit curt lol. Nothing meant by it matey. And for the record I totally agree with you, if I was after a bull x. . . . for doing what a bull x is for. It wouldn't be a bull x whippet. . . . . not in a million years! If I wanted a nippy bull x. . . . . i'd be looking for a pup out of two fast paced dogs, with good acceleration. . . . . rather than going half whippet. And If I wanted a whippet. . . i'd get a whippet (which i've got). However, if that's what floats your boat, I can't see the harm, and in their own right, not compared to the bull/grey, they can make good dogs from what i've seen. Basically I wouldn't say they had anything that a bull x lurcher couldn't offer. But i'd say that they can easily match other small whippet x's. . . . . and probably beat them in some fields. . . . but not in others. If that makes sense? However! I can see how a good bullxwhippet could do what a poor bullxgrey couldn't. . . . . . .same with all dogs. I've a whippet here that would beat some half x bull greys at their job. . . . . it's an odd world!!!! Quote Link to post
Themoocher 231
I was curious I've never seen a bull/whippet working. You don't see many up north. When I think of bull whippet. All I can think of is a small short heavy dog that will lack top speed pace and acceleration, shite coat for bushing n mooching. Quote Link to post
Westy76 546
Blackstaffs bull/whips bred by himself are both cracking dogs, they ferret lamp bush and rat well. Loads of pics on here just search the bull whippet threads. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/275508-bull-whippets/?fromsearch=1 Edited March 23, 2014 by Westy76 1 Quote Link to post

sikastag_1 689
IMO I don't see the point in these bull whippets. Don't see what a bull whippet would offer that racey breed bull greyhound wouldn't. Also think a beddy whippet greyhound would offer more than straight beddy whippet x. Just don't see what the straight whippets x offer as moochers that the others don't? The whippet keeps the size down mate, i used a whippet greyhound over my bitch last year for this reason if I'd of used a pure greyhound I could have ended up with dogs at 28 or 29 inch instead the qtr whippet in them has kept the size down while still speeding the cross up. Barry White 79
Don't see why anyone would put any terrier x into working whippet unless you want to slow them down, just looked up the term "pocket rocket" seems these were a big money spinner for lads ,just goes to show some big names can throw glitter on shit and sell it 2 Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
This is just my opinion from several personal experience's and and i have said this before and i will say it again.. once you cross a whippet over any heavier dog the explosive acceleration and speed has been flung straight out the window and they will struggle with the later season bunnies..you will need a bit of greyhound in there to get the leg length up to add a bit more pace..so i don't really see the point in any first cross unless you do a lot of ratting and long netting..if you want a consistant rabbit dog stick with a pure whippet or a racey lurcher cross 22in or over.. 3 Quote Link to post
