Phil Lloyd 10,738
Why is it that most of the best dogs there has been have all had about 5 owners. From the coursing side to the bull xs. You always hear about different people owning them and someone else had it for a few month etc. seems the top dogs have all had there fair share of owners. Why is this if anyone can explain? Cheers Performance type canines,.be they 'match dogs, battle dogs, racers or critters with a penchant for pursuing and killing a prey, that bites back',..have often been sold on,...generally to like minded enthusiasts, who wish to enjoy and experience the thrills that such beasts provide. socks 32,253
When I was racing greyhounds I had two dogs in at the same time that were both open class ... Had won some good competitions and were track record holders at different distances ... I was offered silly money for both these dogs ... But I wouldn't sell for a few reasons ... They had a good happy home ... They were fed the best food ... Given the best treatment they needed and were trained hard to reach their full potential ... I can honestly say that I didn't think they would get the same level of care and attention with somebody that was only in the game for the money ... I was convinced the feeding and training would be of a lower standard resulting in the dogs loosing half a second and not winning what the fella wanted which means they would be sold on for the same to happen again etc etc .... I was never into the greyhounds for the money although they did line my pockets nicely I was in the game for the challenge and the love of watching what you had nurtured being on top of their game ... The fame and legend status is a sad sad thing in the dog world and the dogs would be far better off without it ....... 2 Quote Link to post

paulus 26
you can buy the best gun in the world but unless you know how to use and look after it correctly it will end up being sold as substandard and another wonder gun brought. no different with dogs, strange how the same people always have better dogs Quote Link to post

Some dogs are worthy a long retirement in your own care 1 Quote Link to post
dai dogs 1,606
Some bull types get passed on because they are to much of a dog for the young owners, Who have no idea how to handle such a cross. 2 Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
I think what this op is getting at is when you see discussions on here about x line of bull x, and one of the original dogs in the line comes up, it always seems like they have had a fair number of owners, and folk chip in all the time seeing they saw the dog when so and so had it etc. Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
You may have the greatest affinity and love of a mutt,a fat fist of folding stuff will test the more resolute resolve, especially when another lump is thrown in as a persuader.Money means feck all to some, others it may be a necessary evil.I turned down decent money for a couple of dogs, the dogs soon went missing,id possibly do the same again, more secure now,yet a fistful of bill paying, shopping buying, holiday taking Wonga would come in handy. The dross I have now would,nt pay for a £9.50 Sun special at skeggy or a couple of gallons of rust tub juice. 1 Quote Link to post

Well said. Sometimes a change is good for the dog too. When dogs are not good for what they were bred for they are best pts imo but sometimes a good dog can change hands for the better.
