Elderberry Purse Net Pegs

Hi guys ive just been making some pegs for my new purse nets for next season out of elderberry got told its like bell metal when hardened. But the lad who told me said he didnt know if they should be treated or not. Could anybody tell me if they need treating or better just left like they are natural thanks jimmy.

Been told that best shaping up when wet other wise its a b*****d to shape when it hardens

Yes mate thats wat he used to tell me i have some here that i dont use aswell as his needles for makeing nets that arnt getting used.If anybody can find a use for them i will post them.

Well ive split the elder into individual pegs drilled um now just need to shape them up. theres one that I did over month on one of my nets on the right. Really enjoyed doing them playing about with the hand sander smoothing them off lol. Just shows how board im getting now season to a end but it will be worth because I can say ive made them ;)

Nets ,snares or pegs the more you use them will break i allow for a certain percentage to go every year and replace them , so i just use any wood laying about and dont bother treating them

I've used elder for snare pegs and net pegs for years and have never bothered treating them. Always cut, shape and sharpen when it's fresh as it's dead easy then. But once they've dried out they're good and sturdy. I've still got a few kicking about that have lasted years.

Can't beat making anything yourself,I make my own nets,it's a good feeling when a rabbit hits a net and peg you have made yourself

A was watching clips on youtube how to make purse nets rc , and to tell you the truth my head was in bits just watching so never mind me putting my hands to it lol. Al stick to making pegs am a dabhand at that. ;)

Freadomofabird net making they were the easiest I found
