keepitcovert 842
There was always stories of how he ripped denny lane off and had him on a basic wage and no share in the royalties, seems there may be some truth in it. Agree on one thing ray davies was a talent, still listen to 20th century man 40 plus years on and still relevant. Edited March 23, 2014 by keepitcovert

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Yeh McCartney is a twat..........but if you don't get their music, name another band more influential since.......... David Bowie. Roxy Music didn't exactly pass by unnoticed either. And they entered the arena against far more, fierce competition. Oh; And Jethro Tull? Started about the same time as the Beatles. Still performing and turning out consistently excellent material to this day. Don't forget; When the beatles emerged, it was pretty much them, the memory of pure 'Rock 'n Roll', or the Stones. Thirty something year old mothers wanted something a bit less in ye face than Jagger. These four, clean looking boys who were bringing out 'nice', barely over the middle of the road, songs ticked the nations boxes. These days, the kids ~ and others ~ are spoiled for choice. Mc Cartney is just s spoilt c**t.
The Seeker 3,048
Like him or not the Beatles were the most ground breaking group this country has produced. I can only think of one more band with as much creativity and that is the Beach Boys. Now I'm not saying they were better a band than Led Zepp or Hendrix or The Who etc or whoever you may prefer as music is purley subjective and personal however what I am saying is that creatively they were unsurpassable.
NEWKID 27,278
Personally not a massive fan of the Beatles and not a fan of Mcartney at all, But in a relatively short space of time they wrote a huge collection of songs ( over 200) which a lot are considered classics, There were 3 very good song writers in 1 band, and they're harmonies were great too ( the beach boys obviously kick ass on the harmony front). Yes there were other bands who've had a huge influence on the way music developed, but the Beatles are undoubtably one of them.. Also the introduction of George Martin, probably shaped they're sound with his excellent production, I rather the stones, the who, the kinks etc... But they were a great band... Mcartneys a cock though

SirRichardCecil 70
I doubt he looses much sleep thinking about peoples opinion of him. Heather seduced him and got a nice payout IMO it could not have happened to a nicer bloke. I read somewhere he starved a herd of fallow deer on his country estate, not sure if that is true or not? I think you missed my point a bit mate, personally I prefer a lot of the Bowie & stones stuff.......& I love roxy music, but I don't think there was a band before or since that had such a massive impact on future aspiring bands & musicians such as the Beatle did..........& don't think it was pretty much them, there were hundreds of british bands starting up nearly all influenced by american blues, elvis etc etc.......it's just that the Beetles/stones rose above the rest.... Frann 882
true, his band was huge and inspired thousands but personally? Huge dislike of their songs. But its each down to what you're into really. Im a heavy metal/hard rock nut so 4 lads from Liverpool never stood a chance unless they were growling into mics and throwing pig blood at the crowd lol
