The one 8,477
Same here i made a few with sliders but get a nice heavy ring and theres nothing in it Quote Link to post
pie-eater 377
I also use agoutis rings. Im not saying sliders are no good each to their own, but if it aint broke don't fix it. If youre not satisfied with the speed rings drop you could try running both cords through the same side of the ring but Ive never felt the need. Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
I have been making purse nets for nearly 50 years and there is not a lot of difference between good rings and sliders, if you think they purse faster then use them, but one thing I will tell you, a net only purses as fast as the rabbit that hits it is travelling. northern lad 2,292
Agreed TC...the thing I prefer about the chrome rings is the lack of friction as compared to a slider (the ones I have used were made by Mick Dadd) the sliders appear to be made of galvanised wire wich by the very nature of it is a "rougher surface" hence more friction, and also not as heavy Each to their own though,as you say they only purse as fast as the rabbits bolting, just found I get less kick offs with the heavy rings 2 Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
After ive made a net i tie the drawcord on the bottom ring and work up till ive got the drawcord threw the top ring . Maybe it helps who knows but i think the nets close faster as they are closing from each end Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
I only have pokes with sliders, so I cant really comment on purse nets. I only use the pokes round big tree roots really and because Im usually hanging them off the tree, sliders are lighter and tend to stay put. Do you not think theres a slight bit of friction with rings as the cord goes through the ring twice at the peg end, trapping the ring. Sliders dont do this, they run parallel if this makes sense? Probably all in my head.. Quote Link to post
northern lad 2,292
I allways thread mine up so both ends of the drawcord go in through the ring the same side Bob,dont know if it makes any difference, just my way the sliders are defo handy in certain situations due to their lighter weight, but all things being equal I much prefer the rings Quote Link to post

It was only a five min chat pal showed me some pics from back in the 70s and 80s when bunnys were booming up north yorkshire told Grassington , settle , them were the places where you could come home with over 100 bunnies in one outing. we used to go up malham and kettle well in the late 80s and 90s. It was too easy really but thats all gone now not worth a run now at all. 1 Quote Link to post
