Ok iam paying roughly £2.65 for a 4 inch x 6ft post normally spaced about 8ft apart but i would go down to 6ft for pigs.Stock fencing i pay about £98.00 for 100 mtrs galv 800mm high.Barbed wire i pay £34 for 200 mtrs.Make sure you put double strainers on every corner and single strainers on any gate posts. If your doing long straight runs then i normally add a double strainer every 20-30 mtrs. It is really easy to put this stuff up the main thing is keeping it all taught, there are specialst tools for this however i have used a bar and ratchet straps to good effect. Run a double strand of wire 4/6 inches and 12/15 inches from the ground and electrify. You can buy ring insulators you screw or nail to inside of posts quick and easy and a top set up especially if you have roads etc nearby,it also stops the pigs rooting under your stock fence!!!!

Jai, don't know about fencing but I've a yard full of gear that may be of use to you,

you'd be welcome to have what you can take, there's a fair load of sheeting, galv, steel flashings etc

I'm sure if you're knocking up a couple of sheds etc it may come in useful, like I say if you can move it you can have it

i would put sheep netting and posts all round, what vanman says is true about the strainers. wouldnt bother with barbed wire, its a bloody nuisance, just put plain coil wire top and bottom to tension. pigs often work out that barbed wire doesnt really hurt them if the incentive to get through is big enough. i bet you will find it dead easy to do with the right equipment, and i would suggest you buy as much of the smaller equipment as you can afford as you will only want it again sometime. i would use electric to divide up the ground inside the boundary as required. make sure your gate posts are really good and strong, as the weight of long gates can put a lot of stress on them and they become a weak spot.

There's some out there mate, your welcome if you want it.

Like I say if your knocking up a little shed or something and don't mind it being a bit patch work quilt then there's a fair bit out there...

I'll have a look what's out there mate,

I won't have it all the same colour ( I'd be pissed off with that much over ordering lol),

Does it matter what thickness? most common colour is light grey ( goosewing) so there might be a bit of that knocking about.

Drop me a pm if you have to order some, I'll sort a good rate for you.

You guys are all stars!

It looks like I might do most of the fencing myself, or all of it. I've got hand post rammers, bars, fencing tools, a tensioner, and also use the winch on the front of the quad to tighten the wire. I also think I may be able to blag or rent cheap a post rammer and tractor. Also agreed to swap something for a job for a couple of days, so probably i'll manage.

We'll see.

Stewie - Your a legend for that offer mate, I think i'm ok, but if I do need it i'll give you a shout.

Kev - Also a legend - and i'll be in touch, i've a stock trailer, and another smaller trailer so could come down for a visit and nick a few bits if you were up for it. Very grateful, can't thank you enough
